Paul — Restaurant in Ostend

Visited here last week with my daughter and 2 year old granddaughter. I went to the counter to order as my granddaughter was hungry and getting tearful and a staff member who was clearing tables kept glaring at us. Customers also were staring at my granddaughter but small children cry! Especially when hungry. The girl serving behind the counter saw me standing behind the person she was serving and as her customer moved away, I stepped forward to order as another customer deliberately stepped in front of me which she saw him do. She chose to ignore me and served this other person while smirking at me. I went back to our ranks and told my daughter we were leaving and both staff were staring at us and even laughing at us. We have been regular customers at Paul in Ostende and have always enjoyed our visits. The service, the coffee, and the overall atmosphere have always been excellent, and we’ve had great experiences with the staff. However, today was a very disappointing exception. An Iranian staff member was incredibly rude, arrogant, and disrespectful. We were truly shocked by the way she spoke to us and treated us. It was an unpleasant experience that does not reflect the usual high standards of this café. It’s reasonably stylish for what it is, a nice place if you want to grab a cup of coffee and a slice of cake. At least at first sight. If you look further - even though the personnel are very nice - service is painfully slow, especially when the place is busy. Also, everything is haphazardly labelled, so you never know what’s what; labels never really match the actual stuff behind them. I find this particularly annoying.
