Overall, the experience was quite mediocre. While the concept is great, it falls short of meeting expectations. The staff were friendly and welcoming, which is a positive aspect. However, there is room for improvement in the basics of food quality and the service.
Unfortunately, the food itself was disappointing. It arrived pretty cold and the quality was below par, especially considering the price. We paid around 20 euros per person for the meal and tea. One particular disappointment was the bacon. It was inedible - extremely thick, full of fat, and even included a slice of bone. This is far from what one would expect from a breakfast bacon.
Moreover, the English tea was not available, so I opted for Earl Grey instead. However, I was served a tea bag and water, which is not the traditional way to serve tea, it’s quite sacrilegious. In addition no tea spoon, lemon or sugar was offered. Any more information on the process of making tea please just google -Maggie Smith Tea rant.
In summary, while the staff were friendly, the food and tea experience fell short of expectations. Improvements are needed in terms of food quality, temperature, and service. Hopefully this will improve as it has opportunity to be a great place in the centre of...
Read moreI'm a Londoner. Whenever I spend time in Brussels and come back, often one of the first things I do is go to a proper cafe and get a full English. You don't realise what you miss until it's gone!
Recently opened, this cafe here provides a Belgian salute to the full English - so I came here to try out a veggie one. The eggs, beans and mushrooms are as to be expected, I was only given the one sausage, and adding battered cauliflower is a rogue choice that would raise the eyebrow of a puritan, but it passed.
The bread and butter were way above anything you’d expect at a cafe in England - French butter and fresh, thick cut bread - you don’t get that with your breakfast for €16 per plate in England!
The decor has somewhat more of a 1960s feel to it, but I think to get it authentically English, it would cost too much for what would basically just be art. The bathrooms paint a picture of what inspired the owner - Cool Britannia, Oasis/Blur, This is England, 1990s Manchester Utd, Sinéad O'Connor.
It doesn’t feel English, it feels Belgian, but with a knowing nod over to England. That’s totally fine - nothing more than I could reasonably expect, I'm just happy there's somewhere for me to go in Brussels when I want a...
Read moreWent there for brunch on Saturday around 11:30. It was not too crowded (thanks to the weather making the terrace usable). The staff was efficient and friendly and the food was very satisfying. The menu clearly leans towards British style brunch. I had the muffin with egg, sausage and bacon as well as a side of hash browns. You know, like what you can get in the famous golden arches fast food, but significantly better. I also took a scotch egg. It was very crispy and the egg was perfectly cooked. I'll...
