Le Claridge — Restaurant in Waterloo

Terrible experience. Waited over 1 and a half hours for our food, and even after that time, they still didn't bring everything. They neglected to bring 4 portions of chips despite being repeatedly asked and when the 2 portions (still 2 lacking) arrived, all the main meals were finished. They brought the sauce for the chicken only after being asked. One portion of chips was removed from the bill but not the other that was missing, which was still charged within the cost of the meal it was meant to accompany. Vegetarian option was dreadful- a few sad looking vegetables and some couscous on a plate. Food ridiculously overpriced and staff overworked- simply not enough staff for the amount of customers in the restaurant. The waiting staff were polite enough but clearly stressed. It felt as though our dissatisfaction was not taken seriously by some of the waiting staff and most definitely the maître de. We were offered free coffee as compensation by one of the nicer waiting staff, but quite frankly that does not go far enough to make up for the whole uncomfortable experience. Would not recommend...

Le Claridge; un restaurant célèbre, bien desservi, à la forte impression. Laissez-moi vous donner la mienne. Une élégante façade couleur blanchâtre s’élève sur le fond gris de la chaussée. Ce contraste est accentué par une silhouette de jais, dont la droiture nous rappelle un manchot sur sa banquise; le voiturier. Élément phare de l’établissement, celui-ci, de son costume pingouin, nous escorte jusqu’à l’intérieur. Une véritable marche de l’empereur. Une fois rentrée, une ambiance chaleureuse s’offre à nous. Un personnel pimpant nous accueille dans un lieu ,qui malheureusement ne l’est pas autant. L’agencement des tables évoque une brasserie conviviale pour certains, une cantine trivial pour d’autres. Enfin. Bien installé, mes compagnons et moi-même avons passé commande. Durant le cours laps de temps qui nous sépara du service, la même question nous traversait tous: Qu’est-ce qui justifie les prix salés de la carte ? Serait-ce les beaux tableaux, les verres et allumettes à leur effigie ? Ou alors les sets de table en papier et la coutellerie de chez IKEA ? Amusante gestion de fonds. Alors, une gracieuse demoiselle vint nous servir délicatement. Malheureusement les mets n’étaient pas à son image. Nous avions la réponse à notre question. Les plats intitulés « de résistance », contrairement à leur noms, étaient d’une triste passivité. Dans un restaurant de cet acabit nous désirons manger bien, pas forcément manger vite. Il n’y avait tout bonnement pas de présentation. Ce que vous avez gagné en rapidité, vous l’avez perdu en qualité. Ces retours ont pour but d’être constructif et n'enlèvent rien au bon moment passé chez vous, certes un peu cher payé. Nous reviendrons pour l’heure du goûter en espérant découvrir un rapport qualité prix...

Very solid brasserie. Is relatively new. Nice looking building. Lots of tables, nicely decorated, big place, popular, so book in advance or come late. Was packed when we were there, but they have lots of experienced staff, and service was quite good and efficient. The menu is obviously brasserie, and they don´t disappoint. We all had different starters and mains - all classics - and they were all excellent. The garnaalkroketten were huge and delicious, as was my vol-au-vent. So all in all a very nice experience.
