We visited The Hungry Grouper yesterday. First walking up, I was expecting something just a little bigger, I think the place had 6-8 tables total. But knowing the reviews rated it so well, we gave it a shot. We were met immediately by a youth and (who we found out to be) the owner shortly thereafter. The menu seems massive with a ton of options for such a small place. We were the only ones there at the restaurant and had a great interaction with the owner (who makes the experience very lighthearted and jovial). We ordered two plates of Snapper, one blackened, the other with coconut cream and a limeade. The food came out quickly, much more quickly than my wife or I expected. Both dishes were hot, fresh, and tasted awesome. It seems like the owner is the primary guy to interact with the guests, and cook, and present the bill... which while slower, is fine, but I can see how on a busy night things might get backed up. I didn’t look behind, but it seems he may only have a small food prep area... that said I don’t regret the visit at all. As stated earlier the food was great, and the interaction with the owner made the evening. My I also suggest the coconut pie for dessert, it’s...
Read moreThe actual definition of a hole in the wall place. From the exterior, you wouldn't expect much from this restaurant, but let me tell you, it's a perfect example of "don't judge a book by its cover." By far one of the best places we ate at during our (unfortunate) short trip to the islands, from the service to the presentation, to the food, everything that the hungry grouper provided was top notch. From the menu, you really wouldn't expect much, and the drink menu is on a note card basically, but don't let that fool you.
As a previous review said, I really hate having to do this, as it'll get more exposure, but it deserves all the attention it can get. If you're in the area, the Hungry Grouper is a must try
I wanted to edit my review, with just some more complimentary words. A member of our family is allergic to shrimp, and without making a story long, the staff was very accommodating. Thank you for making our visit to the...
Read moreA large group of friends and I arrived to a nearly empty restaurant on a Tuesday night. The interior has a sand floor and only one waiter was available. However, he was incredibly helpful and fast, even offered to pick up the special beer my friend asked for since he already needed to run to the store, and he dug the sand down a bit to level one of the kids' chairs. The waiter was more than happy to customize our orders a bit, too; basically we'd be able to have the meat that we wanted in the sauce that we wanted. Our table ordered a lot of things to share: the coconut curry fish, an order of ribs (the last order for the night!), jerk beef and stir fry chicken. Everything was crazy delicious! We were staying near the beach, where most of the restaurants had live music. This place didn't have live music (at least on this night) and it was a nice break to be able to talk and hear each other. Would...
