We went to visit recently after seeing the generally positive reviews this beach received. Unfortunately, we were disappointed in our experience entirely. The chairs were priced at $20, which is on the higher end on Bermuda. The value and quality, however, was on the lower for the island. For the size of the beach, one would expect a lower rate. Further, the seaweed was not kept clean. Something I expect to be taken care of without interrupting my time at $20 per chair. We also ordered food and were very disappointed in it for both the price and quality. I understand that Bermuda is a pricy place. However, in all other places I've visited on the island, the higher price comes with some quality of service and treatment. This was not true at the Tobacco Bay Beach Club. I wish I had something positive to say about my visit, but it was not a relaxing or nice visit, the staff was unfriendly, the food was subpar, and the beach was overly crowded with chairs leaving no space to enjoy. I don't think I will be returning as other parts of the island provide a much...
Read moreCons: very few. Namely, the food and pricing for use of the facility were pricey, but hey! That is also Bermuda. Really, plan well is the best I can advise. And this bay still hits a 5 star for me regardless.
Pros: the beach was beautiful. There were quite a few fun shells, and the view is stunning. We had fun playing on the beach and wandering around the rock formations at low tide. There were also so many fish!! Many of them swam right up to us and even touched our legs and tried to interact with us. It was so cute! We also had a close encounter with 5 huge barracuda fish, so it's not all for the faint of heart. It should be noted we did feel safe and enjoyed the ocean life. It is probably my favorite beach to snorkel at. If we ever get the chance to go again, I think I would like to rent a kayak or paddle board. Brining our own snorkeling equipment was a bonus. If you can pack in, I would go that route.
In all, this place was well worth it, and I hope it can be a place that is protected and loved for...
Read moreFantastic snorkeling! Nice shady seats (although the blue and white plastic sun chaises aren't too comfortable with the steep beach slope,) and lovely ice cold drinks. Recommend heading there early in the morning though - we went at roughly 9:30 on a Sat in late May and preferred the first couple hours the most, before big crowds started to arrive. By lunchtime the place was full of families w/ young kids, groups of teens, and cruise ship tourists, etc.
We were originally planning to sit on the sand (and not rent the umbrella and chairs) but there really isn't very much space to set any of your own gear up. Best to leave most of your personal chairs/shades behind, but pack your snorkel, sunscreen, and a beach towel.
Would definitely go back. Snorkeling was some of the best on the island - and we saw a barracuda for...
