UPDATE: Having been to the place several times already, I think it's fair to highlight how great it is the pizza served in the house! Certainly among the best in town. Thumbs up also for the staff, always joyful and attentive. It still lacks beverage options, mostly wine sold by the glass (and more lightweighted ones, more adequate for the hell-ish weather). And there's still no effing translated menu, even though the whole thing is online. I insist on this topic due to the fact the venue is surrounded by hotels and the neighborhood is often flooded with visitors from all over the world. A shortsighted way to run a business in a city like Rio.
That brings me to the point that made me come back and point out the reason of the few 'turn downs' of Mazzo, in my opinion: the owner himself! Scrolling down the reviews, it shocked me the nerve and the gall of the owner replying to everyone who brought attention to any issue they had at their visit. The replies are rude, inconsiderate, gumptionless and blame the customers for the bad experiences. It's a real shame that good business like this are being run by such self centered arrogant dudes!
FOREIGN VISITORS, BEWARE! The owner of this place truly believe he speaks English (but he doesn't) and, despite other customers warnings, he ended up misleading some Israeli guys to order non vegetarian options even both of them having asked otherwise! No English or Spanish menu available!...
Read moreIf visiting Rio and wanting truly delicious and well crafted pizzas at the cost of say, one of those chain ones…PLEASE do yourself a service and go experience Mazzo Pizzeria. The restaurant is beautiful and charming and the view of the coal burning oven in full display, just transported me out of Brazil and right into Italia.
The service was absolutely fantastic and this family owned and operated restaurant, truly made us feel like apart of their family from the moment we stepped foot in. You can tell that they take great pride in their craft and business and taking care of their customers seems to be priority number one.
Now to the good stuff, my number one priority…the food. What else could I say other than, delicious and what I’ve described above. Every bit of our pizzas were perfect, absolutely perfect.
Can’t state it enough, that this was one of the best hidden gems of our...
