I don't put this lightly. Honestly one of the worst dining experiences I've had and a terrible way to bring in the new year. My girlfriend and I came here on 01.01.25.
After wanting something a bit different from the usual fare of Brazil we decided to venture to this place which for the most part seemed to have decent reviews.
We were promptly sat down and ended up waiting for about 20-30 minutes before anyone took our order. The restaurant at this time wasn't even full and there were 5 waiters so I'm not sure why we kept being ignored.
Received our drinks reasonably quickly then it is like we didn't even exist. (I didn't realise we entered the phantom zone)
The restaurant began to pack out and still none of our dishes were in sight. (I thought about warning them)
6 other tables who had arrived more than an hour and a half after us had all received their food and we hadn't even got one dish.
Despite being close to leaving I convinced my girlfriend to stay and ordered another drink. Upon asking them whether our food was even arriving they promptly ran back into the kitchen. (Honestly this place could ruin marriages not a good first date spot. Which is funny because I saw a couple there on first date looking rather unhappy)
10 minutes later one dish arrived. 20 minutes later the next. And after asking 3 different waiters whether our order of spring rolls would arrive they finally conceded and instead of giving us all meat they were mixed of different things. (I didn't realise that choosing your meal was a completely pointless task, it is there just for show and you will get what you are given)
So not only did they forget about our order they still didn't get it right even though I saw them write it down and confirmed with them twice.
The most frustrating part was seeing other tables being served our exact same order and yet they arrived much later and even after being asked repeatedly if our food was arriving they would just say it is coming soon.
Do not sit in the window area unless you want to cave your skull in from the noise.
After an American couple arrived with their screaming children banging the table and the mother laughing like a hyena it was almost like the restaurant was playing a cruel torture game. (This isn't totally their fault but I will still blame them for the terrible acoustics)
Also, the menu is cryptic as anything, trust me you will not know what you're ordering nor the price because this is all part of this Kafkaesque tragedy that is this restaurant.
Trust me just stick to the dry steak, fries and rice at other places for...

Read moreHow did we end up here: we planed to have lunch at Emile. Google shows it opens 24/7 but when we got there at 2:50 - spent too much time at the top - Sugarloaf and Praia Vermelha. They said come back at 7.
So we walked toward south a few steps and saw a Spanish and Chinese restaurants. We picked the Spanish, oh how I would love to have paella. But the young maid said to me in a low voice: "just you know this is a Spanish, the Chinese is next door."
So here we're, the unwanted guests -:)
The location is excellent, on the second floor, looking out to the Copacabana Beach. A silver of Hotel Emile can be spotted from the windows.
The decor is 1972, the year they started in business.
The service is good, other than messed up order - my best guess is language barrier - me not speaking Portuguese. Does Irene speak anything at all? Not really 😂
We've pickled cucumbers, mapo tofu 麻婆豆腐and eggs with tomato 番茄炒鸡蛋. They totally forgot the cucumber and eggs tomatoes became eggs and ham. Their food is so much better than Canton. And this is the only meal that we finished everything, a small feast.
They're kind enough to charge our phone...
