Restaurante Mondego - (Copacabana) — Restaurant in Região Geográfica Imediata do Rio de Janeiro

We’re from Florida but my wife is Brazilian. This was our 2nd trip to Copacabana and our lunch here was awesome. She had the Espetinho special R$69 for x2 skewers w/ rice, beans and a little lettuce/tomato. I had the Grilled Filet Mignon R$109 which came with Pasta Pomodoro. For any Italian or American familiar with Pomodoro.This was not even close but it was still a good flavorful pasta. Also I did not expect that I was going to get a 16oz Filet. At first I thought I was brought a different cut but it was so big they butterflied it. We ate at this French-style outdoor cafe named Restaurante Mondego. We were the very first ones to show up (just after 11am), but soon towards the end it filled up with a lot more people. It was a bit pricey and the menu was in Portuguese. The old waiter could not understand English or Spanish much, so I had a little help using Google Translate on my phone. We had a lot of good warm bread. The "side of beacon" that normally is 2 or 4 slices in the States, was a plate full of cubed pork! It still good, but a little odd. This was the worst restaurant I’ve been to in Rio. We ordered a pizza — I’ll attach a photo because it’s hard to describe with words. I have no idea what kind of dough it was made with, but it felt like soft bread. The pizza completely fell apart, and you basically had to eat it with a spoon.

I told the waiter that it was way too soft and couldn’t even be cut, and he just ignored me and dumped the mess onto a plate. It was absolutely not tasty.

On top of that, the waiter was unfriendly — didn’t greet us when we arrived, nor did he say goodbye. The prices are above average and totally unjustified. Definitely not...
