Visited in July 2024. Brazil. Rio de Janeiro.

We stumbled upon this place thanks to those glowing Google reviews and some tempting photos. It’s nestled on the first floor of a shopping centre, with a nice little terrace outside. The restaurant itself is small, but it’s cosy and bright.

Food:

We opted for a couple of starters and a main course. Our first bite was the “ like a Lobster Roll”, a delightful selection of crispy little tubes filled with crab mousse. The pastry was gloriously thin and crisp, and the mousse inside was incredibly delicate – a lovely starter both in taste and presentation. We also sampled the grilled lobster from the appetizer menu. Two small tails, which initially seemed a bit dry on the outside, but turned out to be cooked to perfection. The accompanying side dish was equally delicious and complemented the seafood beautifully.

For my main course, I went for the pasta with duck confit and white sauce. It was absolutely divine! The pasta was thin, tender, and smooth, with succulent duck confit tucked inside, all bathed in a rich and creamy sauce – a symphony of flavours, hearty, beautiful, and delicious.

Service:

The service was a bit of a challenge, as our waiter wasn’t overly fluent in English, but we managed with a bit of gesticulation and the helpful picture menu. The food came out quickly, and everything was spot on.

In conclusion:

All in all, a splendid restaurant. You won’t be disappointed if you choose it. Every dish we tried was a hit, without any caveats or complaints, which is a rare thing indeed. The service was simple, but that was more down to the language barrier than anything else. I highly recommend popping in, you’re sure to have a...

Tiara is a fantastic dining experience. The matured duck lacquered in honey and spices (for 2 people) is the best duck that we've ever eaten in a restaurant anywhere in the world. Our 9-year-old son raved about the the duck's nest pasta - although it is a large dish, he finished all of it and asked if my wife could learn how to make it. The meat carpaccio appetizer and passion fruit tapioca dessert were also fantastic. Combined with attentive service and a reasonably priced wine list, Tiara should be on your "must try" list for any trip to Rio. The food was so delicious, we visited a second time while in Rio, and had a similar experience with different dishes (like the scallops appetizer and the...

The overall experience was disappointing. The taste of the food was ok, but not a special experience like a Michelin restaurant. The desserts were both not really good. The organization of the service staff was horrible- much workers but nothing worked well. We didn’t feel comfortable at all- and we were the only guests in the restaurant that night… I work in a Michelin restaurant myself and unfortunately I cannot recommend Tiara. I think there are much better and more interesting options in Rio. I really didn’t expect that and wish I could write something...

Tiara recently changed from a tasting menu to al la carte which I prefer. This also allowed me to try the duck dish, Pato Maturado e Lawueafo no Mel e Especiarias, is excellent. It's perfectly cooked and the skin is crispy and juicy. Definitely worth ordering. The rest of the dishes, while interesting, aren't exceptional. The "como um Lobster Roll", is visually interesting but a bit bland. Same with the scallops. Overall, still worth visiting just for the duck!
