I’m here on a Buddhist retreat for a few weeks from Vancouver, Canada at Tzong Kwan Temple situated in Vila Mariana, São Paulo. Today, I woke up with a massive headache so I couldn't join my friends for lunch. They were heading to this cute little luncheonette known for their vegan dishes and homemade kombucha drinks called Karuna. Because I couldn’t go they brought back this Portuguese sandwich and a bottle of homemade green tea mint kombucha for me…so sweet of them! I took a bite of the sandwich, it was so delicious and I was curious to know what was inside. Then before I could ask my friend,Cris, asked whether I like the sandwich. I said, yes…it’s really good. She said its banana peel mixed with different spices. Subconsciously, I was thinking out loud and said….”what!... i’m eating compost food!”....LOL!.. because back home we will automatically compost any fruit peels or skin without realizing it can be turned into a delicious ingredient if we experimented. This makes perfect sense…every part of the fruit is being consumed..even the peel. No wastage! A simple plain peel made into something with so much umami….it was perfect. The kombucha was very light & refreshing…love the mint flavour mixed into it. I definitely plan to try out the other awesome dishes & drinks they have at Karuna. The tofu bowl was perfectly made too…definitely a must have! I would highly recommend this place to others for their 5 star quality of food with affordable prices and conscientious effort to source food locally. Namo Fo!!...
Read moreNice clean place with vegetarian food. Unfortunately when we came there was only 1 option from the all menu, so we didn’t have a choice. I like this kitchen because it tasty, enough to be full and cheap. I didn’t like that waitress didn’t give us password from WI-FI. We didn’t know Portuguese language and they don’t have menu on English. We wonted to use a translator but she didn’t give us password. Also we wonted to order a taxi, but didn’t have internet for this purpose… so I cannot give 5 stars to this place because the waitress...
