a hit and miss experience. atmosphere is a rather important matter when you dine out: simple is not a problem, but this restaurant is plain & not particularly cozy. service is gentle while a little confusing, if you are not too familiar with the vietnamese name of the food served. it is always useless to compare a foreign cuisine served in brasil with the same cuisine you enjoyed abroad or in its native country: adaptations must be done as the prime ingredients are scarce or impossible to get. so I cannot totally disagree with another vietnamese reviewer saying the flavors are cheapened. I'd rather say they are dimmed down, but the food is enjoyable, nevertheless. the vietnamese spring roll is as good and authentic as you can have in paris, at a traiteur du coin, or even in a luxuriant vietnamese resto, a champa-french spring roll, only way smaller; these are the same rolls you can eat in khmer cuisine, while cambodia and vietnam were historically enemies. not to mention the strict relation btw champa, khmer and thai cuisine. the green papaya salad is good. you can say the same for the phos, the toms and the buns. some of my friends judged the phos tasteless, but they were not. they are adapted to a less adventurous palate. just adjust some typaros and spices to your personal taste, if you think you must. unfortunately the food is overpriced, I mean, way overpriced fot a simple joint like this. you are paying prices as if it was a fancy restaurant. the cocktails are way overpriced too for a boteco da vila madá. two cocktails, two appetizers and an entrée you can easily pay a 300,00 R$ bill per person. hence the 3...
Read moreI visited today, and ordered pho and a drink. After I ordered, the manager/head waiter told me that my order was pequeño/small; and was told to upgrade my order to a large pho.
I stood up right away; and went to a Japanese restaurant located two blocks away.
You don't tell your customer what to order.
I was not hungry. I just wanted to try the pho here, because it was recommended by a friend.
I'm not surprised that this vietnamese restaurant was empty when I visited; while the Japanese restaurant where I went to, had many clients. Customer care is important.
Added part (to answer some points) because you are lying:
When I arrived in your restaurant, no one told me that you were still closed. I was entertained and ushered in right away.
No one wanted to explain to me the different phos on the menu. I was told to upgrade the pho that I ordered to large.
When I left your sad restaurant, I went to the Japanese restaurant right away. Mind you, it was just a 3-minute walk. While your store was totally empty, customers were already waiting for their tables at the Japanese restaurant.
We agree on one thing; that common sense is important. Go find one. You're not busy at work. You have...
