vintage ambiance, - awful service, foreigners don’t seem to be welcome!
Though Bar do Minero has a remarkable interior being put together from collectibles all over the world I had the strong feeling that foreigners are not welcome. It was suspicious that everyone except our table had a white paper tablecloth and received cutlery with their food. Furthermore we had the impression that they didn’t want us to pay since we were completely ignored when we tried to ask for the check. Moreover we were sent to the bar to pay with our credit card although the credit card machines were portable and were brought to other tables.
Anyways, the service was awful and this really surprised me because we were served by the owner himself. The food was average and I highly recommend to spend your money elsewhere, e. g. and the Cafecito next door who has friendly waiters and owners and fabulous food.
Just because Bar do Minero recently popped up in several trend guides it doesn’t mean that you are spending a...
Read moreWent there twice - once for feijoda and once for moqueca, obviously coupled with caipirinhas. Definitely a hidden gem in a beautiful neighbourhood. Worth to take the tram up here to enjoy the views on the way. Feijoada and moqueca are one of the best in Rio and beyond. Definitely the prices are also a massive plus - feijoada that fed the two of us was half the price of Casa de Feijoada where we have also been. And whilst not a minus for Casa de Feijoada, this is definitely a great plus for Bar do Mineiro - cheap and probably best feijoada we had in Rio. Atmosphere and the design of the place is also very hip, very authentic, gives this places a great feel and want-to-stay atmosphere. Highly...
Read moreDo you know when can you eat bones? When it has been cooked in the stew for so long that its calcium breaks down and flavour comes out. This is how I know I have had one of the best stews in my life, not just the best Feijoada. The stew does not cheat - plenty of meat, sausage and beans cooked just to the right texture. The sides were perfect complements to the stew, especially the orange slices with the sauce - yes I ate it that way and saucéed the plate with it. The staff is friendly, attentive and under the classical music backdrop I was losing my mind as I had my meal. Nothing touches the soul of a sick traveller better than such a stew on...
