The saving grace of Ox Club is the almost meticulous and impeccable service rendered, the exquisite plating, as well as its beautiful exterior and interior. This restaurant would work for you if you prefer appearances and the feeling of living like a bourgeois person over taste.
For most of the dinner, I was delighted by the constant attention to detail from the service staff and the beautifully plated dishes. The service staff were receptive and constantly on hand to clear used plates and replace them with fresh ones. These were the highlights. Once again, if aesthetics are the way to your heart, you would find that Ox Club fulfils almost every aspect of what cuisine eye candy can be.
The food, however, boggled me. We chose the Ultimate Ox Club menu (USD188+ per pax) and left feeling: How could so much food look so good but be prepared so mediocrely?
I came to the Ox Club fully expecting Michelin-quality and grade food and was disappointed - beyond words. It got progressively worse with each dish. At some point, I gave up trying to appreciate the dishes. There were gold flakes in almost every dish, as if to compensate for the lack of sophistication in taste profile and preparation.
Unfortunately, the main course (an A5 Wagyu steak) which was supposed to be the star of the show, was also so brittle, bland and boring that we left most of it uneaten. It was not high-quality steak which made it all the more reprehensible if you are paying a premium.
In some restaurants where hot meals do not perform, the pre-dessert and dessert saves the show. Do not expect that here. I was genuinely perplexed at how bad the desserts were. Just imagine a sub-par Solano ice cream shaved into sugared syrup (pre-desert) and overnight bread left outside with the semblance of what appears to be tiramisu (desert). The presentation, once again, is tip top. The taste execution, horrible.
At the end of the meal, all I wanted to do was pay and walk out of the restaurant. The restaurant service team was kind enough to comp a portion of the meal (the drinks) after realising that we were not enjoying our meal.
For aesthetic lovers, Ox Club will scratch your fancy. There is no doubt about that. If you do care about what you eat and are particularly fussed about taste profiles or ingredients, I suggest heading to another restaurant who prioritises tastes over...
Read moreI’ve been lucky enough to try several Michelin 3-star restaurants across Europe and Asia, but Ox Club in Phnom Penh really took me by surprise. This place is all about quality, and it’s easy to see why it’s the preferred catering partner for the Prime Minister’s family.
The food is exceptional, with every dish made from the finest imported ingredients. My favorite was the Lobster dish—the lobster was perfectly tender, and the pasta was surprisingly spicy and rich without being overwhelming. It was one of those dishes you just don’t forget. The dessert was also a real highlight, I highly recommend trying their a la cart french toast dessert.
If you’re in Phnom Penh and looking for a high-end dining experience that really delivers, Ox Club is a must-visit. It’s easily one of the best meals I’ve had in...
Read moreMy daughter and I browse around there and find this restaurant. We just pop in with our shorts and seeaty vest into this fine dining place. I'm amazed that all the servers here are quite friendly and helpful. While we browse the menu, we found that those stakes are ginomus like 600,700 g where we can only consume 200 g each combing with other soup and entrés. The food was delicious. They recommended some more thing to try, I was quite full, but my daughter ordered a dessert, which is lagre enough to share 2 to 3ppl. Nice place and good ambience. at least it satisfies my...
