I wish I could give a positive review as I love to support a vegan business, but unfortunately I just can't. We came very excited to visit a fully vegan hostel and we're very disappointed. There seems to be struggles with the management / organisation - or perhaps we were unlucky.
It started when we were "upgraded" from a private room to a double room over email as the bookings probably were mismanaged. Didn't think much of it and the difference wasn't huge, but it definitely wasn't an upgrade.
We arrived and the welcome was the least warm we have received yet in Cambodia. It wasn't rude or anything, just lacking in warmth and for example we weren't helped with our bags at all when we struggled to carry them all the way up the rooftop.
We were shown our room and as we saw the bed we were confused as the bed wasn't made. Didn't inspect because we were ravenous so we went to eat.
The food was tasty, but I was served the wrong burger. We went back up and inspected the room as we wondered why the bed wasn't made. Alas, there was hair and dirt on the bed, trash in the bin... The room hadn't been cleaned.
I went to tell the service and we got a new room. I just don't see how he didn't notice when he showed us the room - and what icks me is that we were not offered any compensation or apology after these two mistakes I had already pointed out.
The room itself was ok with nice decoration. The bed quite uncomfortable though and the blanket flimsy and unsatisfying.
The bathroom was quite sad, with the water sink not working properly and the bidet not always managing to give pressure. The doorhandle doesn't fit the door properly so the bathroom wasn't actually secure. I'll put a photo.
We wanted to work during the next day in the cafe and got yummy breakfast and a disappointing frappe (too icy), but the AC wasn't working at it was too hot to bear.
Positives are that most of the food was at least delicious and the common area upstairs was a...
Read moreThe private room has no window and the private bathroom is basically a room separated by half a wall so the bathroom area is uncovered on the top and the room smells horribly. The bathroom wasn’t clean, the bin wasn’t and the shelves were rusty. There were 2 spiders in the room (but I guess for Asia that’s normal so this hasn’t affected my review). The WiFi is terrible. I booked a private room because I teach online and I had to cancel my classes because of the speed. The manager was kind enough to help me by rebooting but that didn’t do anything, the download speed kept falling to 2/3 mbps. So I really feel like I wasted the 500bhat. Once I checked in and checked the WiFi I asked to cancel but was told I cannot get a refund. Then I asked whether I could use the fridge and I couldn’t because my wrap had meet in it (it was in foil and in a bag sealed) - anyway I get it I guess so this hasn’t affected my review - I am just telling you in case you aren’t vegan. Plus small thing but it topped up my frustration, when you leave the luggage by their desk watch out of the nails sticking out of the wood cause I nearly got scratched and my suitcase got ripped.
I honestly had such a bad experience and...
Read moreThis hostel is in a good location and is a quick walk from the Russian market. The rooftop is very relaxing and has many places to rest. The cafe is cute with great food. It has a selection of local food and western food. All of which is vegan and delicious. The staff is very friendly and helpful. ||||The actual hostel is in need of some major cleaning. The bathrooms are pretty clean for what the hostel costs. However, during my three night stay, I never saw the bathroom trash can emptied. ||||My bed was dirty when I arrived. It had little sand like particles all over the bed. Was it sand? Insect eggs? Food? I’m not sure but it makes me think the bedding was not changed when the previous person checked out. The floor seemed like it was covered in dust/ dirt and had dark stains all over it. The hostel has air conditioning but it only runs from 8pm-8am and if you are in the edge beds you barely get any of the air. I would wake up sweating. The top beds are also very hard to to get down from. The ladder is steep and the curtain from the bunk under you gets caught in the ladder. ||||Tip: bring your own lock for the lockers. You get a small locker for a purse or small bag. You backpacking pack will just be placed...
