I am SO HAPPY we went to Chanrey Tree - this seriously is one of the best restaurants in all of Southeast Asia! The unique combinations of ingredients, the service, the menu items…it is unmatched almost everywhere! When you walk in the door you are greeted by dozens of staff, all with a smile, and you feel the warmest welcome you can get in Cambodia. Then, when we spoke to our waiter, and we were asking about the chef’s recommendations, he told us a whole group of the Cambodian Ministry were just in earlier that day ordering some different items on the menu - if literal Cambodian government officials are regular attendees to this restaurant, you know it’s good!! We ordered many different items from the menu: our favorites were the Crispy Sticky Rice with Natang Sauce (unbelievably good - such a nice, creamy coconut curry sauce with some shrimp and easily something you could have sooo much of), Beef Skewers (wonderfully-marinated beef that has some of the best flavor I’ve tried in a long time), Grilled Stuffed Frog (another wonderful marinated meat that tastes completely different than what you’d expect frog to taste like - if you’re a bit wary of this one, don’t be! It’s so good!), and lastly Stir-Fry Morning Glory (vegetables that are extremely good…I don’t even like vegetables and I would very happily have these every day)! We also got some excellent mocktail drinks - I would imagine all of them are super good on the menu, so you really can’t go wrong with any of them! All in all, I was so, so happy with my meal at Chanrey Tree. Wonderful service, wonderful food, and a wonderful atmosphere! Try it when you’re in Siem Reap!!

Visited this restaurant on 09 January 2022, for a group lunch of six people. A good impression was in the air when weabout to enter the mid-size building. You are welcomed by a nice, small garden right on the left and the right of you. That was truly a soothing environment that embraciles a peace of mind feeling. Right before the entrance you will be greeted by a small lotus pond with their pinky colors, blowing a feeling of warm welcoming. The restaurant has two floors. We have a chance to see the second floor, after climbing a wooden stairs. In the second floor there is a spacious VIP room, that can accomodate up to twenty people, depending on the setting. No toilet in the second floor, meaning you need to go downstair if you need to use the restroom. The restaurant serves Khmer food. There are some specialties that you can choose from the menu book. The plating and the appearance, are also good. Waitress, are well trained and some of them speak English fairly good. We were lucky that we have the oppprtunity to meet with the owner of this restaurant, which is a warm hearted gentleman. A Spa next to the right of this Chanrey Tree restaurant is also one part of his business. This is one of a few restaurants that managed to win in their struggle to operate after the two years of Covid-19 Pandemic. It must be a very tough fight by the owner and the management. Ooohhh... for restroom, they have two separated toilets, one for ladies and one for gentlemen. They are clean, although not too spacious. Recommendable.

Chanrey Tree is a remarkably beautiful restaurant, from the lotus pond entrance to the minimalist lemongrass scented ac dining room. It must be an amazing experience for first time travellers of the region to eat in a restaurant which fulfills all the romantic clichés of a trip to Indochina, all in swanky clean surroundings. They might even think the wine list is reasonably priced, when in fact it is terribly overpriced for Siem Reap with the cheapest house wine starting at almost 30$. The food at Chanrey Tree is beautifully presented, but taste wise it's pretty ordinary. Most dishes are around 10$ and portions are quite generous, so the price would be alright if the quality matched the exquisite surroundings. However, out of three dishes we ordered, only one was really good. The seafood with Kampot pepper was fresh and the sauce delicious. The raw beef salad was just fine, with good meat, the sauce, however, was slightly too salty and acidic. The third dish was a very ordinary tasting beef curry dish which none of us rated highly. Verdict: A very beautiful place to eat, and most likely a great experience for people unfamiliar with the finer details of Khmer cooking. For foodies with knowledge of Khmer cuisine, however, this place is definitely style over substance. There are better fine dining options in town. Be aware that they're one of the very few restaurants outside the big hotels in Siem Reap that add 10% service charge to your bill.

Cambodia (and many spots in SE Asia) get a bad rap for poor service. Chanrey is definitely a major exception. From the start I felt welcomed and taken care of with even a hostess guiding me to my seat and warning me of steps (while also pointing out the bathroom). The atmosphere is brilliant. It really highlights the natural beauty of Cambodia with local plants and statues that will be pretty familiar to you if you have visited any temples. While it is mostly outdoors, the entire area is shaded with fans which keeps it cool compared to the hot sun (I came around the spring equinox). Last but certainly not least the food. The food was excellent! I got the beef lok lak which was tender, juicy and well balanced with the sauce and accompanying vegetables. The price may be higher than other spots nearby but the quality is unmatched. The care for the ingredients and for your dining experience is very good. It almost feels like a Michelin-lite experience. In conclusion, if you are in Siem Reap and are interested in some local food and don't mind spending a little extra then Chanrey is 100% worth a visit! Edit: I went back the next day to try the fish amok and it was the best fish amok I had while in Cambodia! The fish was succulent and moist, the skin was soft but presented a lovely texture with the flesh of the fish. And the curry/sauce itself was well balanced. Overall it did the traditional Khmer dish great justice!

Located in the heart of Siem Reap, Chanrey Tree offers a unique dining experience where you can indulge in some of Cambodia's most mouthwatering traditional countryside cuisine. Nestled in a lush and contemporary courtyard setting, this restaurant seamlessly combines the best of both worlds - delicious food and an inviting ambiance. One of the highlights of the restaurant is the beautifully restored traditional wooden Khmer house, where diners can choose to enjoy their meal. This historical structure not only adds to the charm and authenticity of the dining experience but also provides a glimpse into Cambodia's rich cultural heritage. The menu features a wide variety of traditional Cambodian dishes meticulously prepared by their skilled chefs using locally sourced ingredients. From the flavorful fish amok to the fragrant banana blossom salad, every dish is a delightful exploration of Cambodia's culinary traditions. Moreover, Chanrey Tree prides itself on providing excellent service and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The attentive staff members ensure that your dining experience is not only memorable but also reflects the hospitality for which Cambodia is renowned. The combination of delectable cuisine, historic ambiance, and attentive service make it an ideal choice for impressing clients, colleagues, or guests visiting from out of town.

***This review was posted on Tripadvisor in January 2018*** We stopped by this place on our way back to the hotel cus it looked pretty nice and we wanted to try their frog dish. It’s right by the river and close to the night market (they even have their own spa right next door). The staff was able to accommodate us for an hour, as we didn’t have a reservation. We got some light dishes to share: Grilled Stuffed Frog ($8.40 USD), Bok Svay Chicken salad ($6.70 USD), Stir Fried Green Kale ($6.70 USD), Coconut ($3 USD) The chicken was really tasty, I would recommend trying out that dish. The stuffed frog legs tasted and looked like minced pork. Did not get a good taste or texture of the frog - but it was tasty nonetheless. The coconut was “interesting”... it tasted like carbonated drink, but inside a fresh coconut. Not sure how they did that?? Or perhaps we just got a special coconut haha. The price was on the pricier side, given that this was one of the more higher end restaurants in the area. Of note, we were seated outdoors; I would recommend bringing bug spray as I was bit twice!
