During our time in Siem Reap, we had the pleasure of dining at Chanrey Tree, a well-regarded spot for authentic Khmer cuisine. The recommendation came from our airport driver, who spoke highly of the restaurant’s commitment to traditional flavors – and it didn’t disappoint.
Food We tried the Fish Amok, a classic Khmer dish known for its creamy, aromatic sauce and tender fish pieces. The Amok here was outstanding, with rich coconut flavors and just the right balance of spices, truly capturing the essence of Cambodian cuisine. We also ordered a mix of Khmer-style grilled meat skewers, which brought together a variety of flavors and textures, expertly grilled and marinated. The skewers showcased the distinct spices and seasonings of Khmer cooking, making each bite an experience. To accompany the meal, we enjoyed fresh fruit juices made from exotic local fruits, which were incredibly refreshing and flavorful – a perfect way to enhance the meal.
Ambiance The setting at Chanrey Tree combines traditional charm with modern comfort. Located by the river, the restaurant has a serene, lush vibe, with options for both indoor seating in a beautifully restored Khmer-style wooden house and outdoor seating surrounded by greenery. This ambiance makes it an ideal spot to enjoy a meal and escape the hustle and bustle of Siem Reap.
Service The service was outstanding. The staff was attentive, friendly, and well-versed in the menu, offering insightful recommendations and explaining the dishes with enthusiasm. The food arrived promptly, and the staff’s attention to detail made us feel genuinely welcome.
Value for Money It’s worth noting that Chanrey Tree is on the higher end of the price spectrum in Siem Reap, but the experience justifies the cost. The quality of food, charming ambiance, and attentive service make it a worthwhile splurge for anyone looking to experience authentic Khmer cuisine in a...
Read moreI am SO HAPPY we went to Chanrey Tree - this seriously is one of the best restaurants in all of Southeast Asia! The unique combinations of ingredients, the service, the menu items…it is unmatched almost everywhere!
When you walk in the door you are greeted by dozens of staff, all with a smile, and you feel the warmest welcome you can get in Cambodia. Then, when we spoke to our waiter, and we were asking about the chef’s recommendations, he told us a whole group of the Cambodian Ministry were just in earlier that day ordering some different items on the menu - if literal Cambodian government officials are regular attendees to this restaurant, you know it’s good!!
We ordered many different items from the menu: our favorites were the Crispy Sticky Rice with Natang Sauce (unbelievably good - such a nice, creamy coconut curry sauce with some shrimp and easily something you could have sooo much of), Beef Skewers (wonderfully-marinated beef that has some of the best flavor I’ve tried in a long time), Grilled Stuffed Frog (another wonderful marinated meat that tastes completely different than what you’d expect frog to taste like - if you’re a bit wary of this one, don’t be! It’s so good!), and lastly Stir-Fry Morning Glory (vegetables that are extremely good…I don’t even like vegetables and I would very happily have these every day)!
We also got some excellent mocktail drinks - I would imagine all of them are super good on the menu, so you really can’t go wrong with any of them! All in all, I was so, so happy with my meal at Chanrey Tree. Wonderful service, wonderful food, and a wonderful atmosphere!

A good impression was in the air when weabout to enter the mid-size building. You are welcomed by a nice, small garden right on the left and the right of you. That was truly a soothing environment that embraciles a peace of mind feeling.
Right before the entrance you will be greeted by a small lotus pond with their pinky colors, blowing a feeling of warm welcoming.
The restaurant has two floors. We have a chance to see the second floor, after climbing a wooden stairs.
In the second floor there is a spacious VIP room, that can accomodate up to twenty people, depending on the setting. No toilet in the second floor, meaning you need to go downstair if you need to use the restroom.
The restaurant serves Khmer food. There are some specialties that you can choose from the menu book. The plating and the appearance, are also good.
Waitress, are well trained and some of them speak English fairly good. We were lucky that we have the oppprtunity to meet with the owner of this restaurant, which is a warm hearted gentleman. A Spa next to the right of this Chanrey Tree restaurant is also one part of his business.
This is one of a few restaurants that managed to win in their struggle to operate after the two years of Covid-19 Pandemic. It must be a very tough fight by the owner and the management.
Ooohhh... for restroom, they have two separated toilets, one for ladies and one for gentlemen. They are clean, although not too...
