**modifying due to owners reply (unsurprisingly lacking customer service or accountability. I worked in restaurants as a student and would have been hit in the face were this my reply to a patron rather than âthanks for your feedback, Iâll work on that!â):
Thatâs what the word âhobbyâ means.
We spend 2-3 months per year in SE Asia. This was the solitary indoors place we went to in ALL of Siem Reap that did not have aircon (nor air flow). We were sitting outside prior to arriving here and it was COOLER OUTSIDE. I weigh 43 kg so am ALWAYS the coldest person in any room. I carry a scarf at all times in Asia due to everyone blasting the aircon. Even taxis.
This was also the only venue who went to that did not have a second card machine, that might actually work. Every other venue had 2 card machines, one that never even tries and gives a failed noise before attempting to charge your card, and another obviously more advanced machine which works.
We asked for the cocktails with âlittle sugar,â ânot much sugar,â and yet, overwhelmingly sugary, more so than any other we had, including a block away (or elsewhere in Cambodia in years past).
as a âcocktail bar,â youâd presumably cater to a higher end, worldly clientele instead of budget Travelers drinking beer 99% of the time - at least have drinkable cocktails and aircon like the rest of town! Weâre almost never in NYC with how it is now and primarily live in our London house, but cocktails in NYC are over $25 each with tax and tip-even our favorite places in BKK charge $15 per cocktail, so if you had decent cocktails, weâd (and others used to decent cocktails; from HK, major cities) buy many at only $7 each. Backpackers donât.
I wouldnât bother leaving a review, but recommended as great cocktails by multiple people. Unfortunately anything but.
We came to siem reap to collaborate with raffles for our hobby IG and stayed in the town before and after. This place was recommended and we walked by around 6 PM, my boyfriend walked in and said absolutely not. Our final night before a morning flight, we decided to give it a try, just before their surprisingly early closing time (they close at midnight).
They have the kind of card machines that donât work with any tap cards - doesnât even try, it says no immediately without even making an attempt (all other shops, grocery stores, restaurants have another machine that does work for tap cards, so itâs obviously more of a backpacker/cash place, as evidenced by the pair of other patrons they suggested we awkwardly sit on top of to share a solitary fan in the silent back room with their backpacks (who smelled)).
There is no Aircon (unusual in Cambodia), and the drinks were 100% sugar. I specifically ordered one that did not have absolut vodka which they love so much (we always bring as much ketel one, etc. as we can into the continent every year, which runs out quickly), since low quality liquor makes us ill, but even allegedly without absolut, it was nauseating sugar water.
We live between NYC and London-in London, the pours are so small, so itâs also sugar water, but of course great wine, at an incredible price. NYC used to have the best cocktails in the world until everyone moved to open states over the last 4 years, so sadly no longer, but both are miles ahead of this (when people suggest a great cocktail place in Asia, spending months every year in Asia, we know it wont be the case, but this was worse than anticipated).
The staff are nice, but not helpful (I ordered my sugar water cocktail as a martini, but it still came in a tall...
Read moreTucked away just behind pub street, this place is a gem! I don't know what the guy who wrote the review about the drinks being 15ml was thinking but he's dead wrong! The drinks here are strong! (But not overpowering). I and my partner enjoy a good cocktail and Miss Wong's did not disappoint! So many different cocktails to choose from and each one done with an incredible attention to detail. These drinks would easily set you back $20 in any other city in the world. I love me some lemongrass, Jasmine, and other worldly flavors. These are staples here. We loved it so much we came back the same day. You can get $2 "cocktails" on pub street but miss Wong's puts them to shame! There is no comparison. Please do yourself a flavor, go to miss Wong's and indulge, because when you go home, this isn't a luxury most of us would enjoy on the regular. Wow. Just wow. They do it right!!!! If they were open all day, gurl, we'd be there all the dayum day! Whoop! The bathroom is super fun as well! There's a pond with fish in it! Like I CANT EVEN!! And the decor of the joint, like, just go! Even the menu is on a fan. A fan! Don't even tell me you don't want to go to a place that has its menu on a fan! I mean....
Ps. Apparently the owner is gay. We chose this placE because it came up after a Google search for "gay Siem reap". We like to always check out GF establishments but they usually disappoint. Anyway. While this place is gay friendly, it's not important. Siem reap is pretty gay friendly. Your sexuality is not important here and I'm sure the owner would agree. My review is based on the service and quality. Everyone should go! It...
Read moreYawn. Boring. One of the driest cocktail bars I've ever been to. Cocktails were lame. Atmosphere was non existent - playing quiet 1920s music. No vibe.
Edit: I'm adding further to my review seeing as the owner has taken my comment as a personal attack. Cocktails....I ordered a negroni and an off menu passionfruit caipirinha. I recognise that I did not choose a flamboyant option or any of their signature cocktails. Perhaps they are better? The negroni was a classic style and is my favourite drink along side an old fashioned. Sadly in Miss Wong is didn't have the kick or enough Vermouth. The caipirinha was just fine. As for the atmosphere...I am not looking for an EDM Pub Street vibe. As two 40 year olds were were looking for a cool, speak easy style and edgy place. Maybe people like the very quiet 1920 music but for a Friday night I think some upbeat jazz or something with more fun would've drawn people more. The interior of Miss Wong ticks all the boxes we were looking for. I loved the decor and interesting features. I really wanted to love this place and honestly if it had some atmosphere we were ready to drop $$$ on a great night of cocktails. Yet we were one of 3 tables in there, the one adjacent to us being a family and the other two girls who also seemed bored. Everyone left after 1 drink. I am not being insensitive to the situation, I acknowledge this will bring tourist numbers down and the locals may not want to be entertaining parties, however there was something missing at Miss Wong that gave it no life or soul. Shout out to the two staff who served us though. Super polite, helpful...
