To summarise, if you enjoy Indian cuisine, you owe it to yourself to dine here. A strong contender for the best Indian restaurant in and around Calgary/Airdrie if not Alberta/Canada as a whole.
I went in after work, having walked past Gate of India on a few occasions and having the smell coming from the restaurant grab my attention.
Coming in from the freezing cold, windy weather outside, I was greeted by a small but comfortable restaurant. The server was friendly and welcoming, and within a few minutes of being seated, she returned with water and took our orders.
The group I was with ordered the Vegetable Pakora, Papri Chaat, and a Chicken 65 for our appetizers. The Pakora was wonderful, and the Papri Chaat was delightfully refreshing. However, the unexpected star of the appetizers was definitely the Chicken 65; it is hands down the best friend chicken I have ever had. Words cannot do it justice, and if you're a fan of Indian food and chicken, the Chicken 65 will cement itself as one of the best dishes you've ever tasted.
For the main courses, we had Butter chicken, Chicken Korma, and Chicken Lababdar. Along with Basmati Rice, Garlic Naans and a Roti. The butter chicken was creamy, the Chicken Korma tasted fantastic, and the Chicken Lababdar was totally new to me, but I cannot recommend it enough. The quality of the ingredients shone throughout every one of the main courses, with the chicken universally being tender, juicy and perfectly complimented by the various curries. Worth a mention the Naans and Roti were absolutely perfect and are easily the best I have ever eaten anywhere...
Read moreOutstanding! After quite a few years, I've finally found an Indian restaurant that checks all the boxes for me ie food quality, great selection on a full menu, deliciousness and great service. We stopped in on the way to Calgary to have a late lunch and were craving Indian cuisine. We had looked up the best places to dine in Airdrie and this one establishment was ranked the highest. The recommendation was definitely not wrong! The following items were the very best we'd eaten of their catagories: Tandoori You MUST have the chicken Tandoori...The very BEST. Juicy and supple meat, you could taste the freshness and care that was taken in its preparation. Then the Biriyani So fragrant with freshly prepared, high quality spices and huge chunks of tender meat distributed throughout. Papri Chat ~ A side dish/appetizer with a wonderful medley of textures and flavours that hit all the notes. Made with chickpeas, crunchy fried flour crispies or crackers) potatoes, pakoris (fried black gram fritters), curd (yogurt), spices and various chutneys. We also had the goat curry which was also off the chain delicious! All this well spiced delicousness washed down with a refreshing Taj Mahal Indian beer, made for a very pleasant and satisfying dining experience. If you love Indian food, do yourself a favor and get...
