Pita Land Shawarma - Ajax — Restaurant in Ajax

I don’t normally leave reviews, but this place absolutely deserves it. I’ve been coming here for the past few months now for my shawarma fix and I truly believe it’s a hidden gem. Mike and the other bigger gentleman (I’m sorry I never got your name!) always provide top tier customer service. They always have a smile on their face and are super friendly towards me. My go to is the chicken shawarma and chicken shawarma poutine, both of which are to die for. Unlike major shawarma companies (I’m looking at you osmows and lazeez), their chicken is moist and browned to absolute perfection- plus they give generous servings! Every bite has a good amount of chicken in it and I feel satiated after finishing. I’m nitpicking here, the 4 stars is for the atmosphere because there is a plexiglass barrier between the customer area and where they make the food, so it feels a little intimidating coming here for the first time and it can be a little hard for them to hear you (understandable since there’s a physical barrier in front of them). Went here for a late dinner and got there around 9:30pm. Usually the food and service is good. You're in and out within minutes - IT IS FAST FOOD AFTER ALL! Went inside and there was a long line. There was a woman doing the line and a man frying up the chicken. He kept cutting off the chicken per order instead of cutting off a large portion all at one time. Series since everyone there was getting chicken and a bunch of people were standing there. We ended up waiting 25 minutes just for a chicken shawarma and a plate!!! I had to ask for fresh/hot potatoes because mine had been sitting on the counter that whole time. There must be new owners or something because the food tastes different and the chicken ended up being over cooked. Used to love this place but the last 2 times ordering here I got food poisoning. The last time was when I went in to order Lentil soup and was told it would be a 20 min wait. I told them "thanks but I dont have the time to wait today I will just order the plate w/ chicken". The guy working said "no no its ok I will get you some fresh soup in the back". He proceeded to pick up a lentil soup container off of the floor and go into the back. When he returned I asked if the soup I got was fresh, and was advised it was. Turns out 24 hrs later I paid for that choice to buy the lentil he gave me by having the worst bout of food poisoning EVER!
