Stopped for sticky buns on our way to Fundy Park. We wanted 5 buns and was told itâs no tax if you purchase 6 which sounded good to us. All buns in the display case were in a loaf of 6. A worker was separating buns into 1 per small paper bag. I explained I needed 3 now and wanted to bring 3 home so I asked if they could package them to accommodate that. The owner told me âitâs a lot of work for us to do that so it costs more.â Seemed petty since someone was standing there doing exactly what I was requesting. We bought 6 buns, 2 bottles of water and a frozen chicken pot pie to make at home later. The total was $39. The sticky buns were tasty and fresh. The pot pie was the worst weâve ever had and is the reason I decided to write a review. The crust was ok but the filling was bland, mushy, and made with canned peas and beans. The beans were inedible because they were so stringy they couldnât be safely swallowed. There were no chicken pieces whatsoever, instead the chicken that could be seen was extremely small shreds that looked like small strings. I highly recommend skipping the chicken pot pie. It was pathetic and certainly not...
Read moreMy wife and I love this little shop in the village of Alma. Had to try their Sticky Buns, at Kelly's Bake Shop. since they're "world famous". Not sure how theirs compare to the rest of the world's but the buns my wife and I enjoyed were truly delicious. Like the fact that they were not overly sweet nor overly sticky (though I did wind up wearing some of it). Buns tasted fresh, as I devoured one in their parking lot before pulling away. This was our second eating stop before leaving this village of Alma on our short day trip. Had dinner at another restaurant just before this final stop in town. We made sure we left room for desert at Kelly's (actually Elliot's now). We will be back and, when with company, be sure to let them enjoy Kelly's Bake Shop as well. Something to brag about. Note that when we had visited their current day record for producing sold out sticky buns was 4392 on Aug. 5, 2019 (pre-pandemic). They started making them at 3am and closed at 7pm only because they were exhausted (had to turn away people still lined up out the door). What a day that...
Read moreIn the mid 80s, when I was just starting school my family lived in Alma. I went to Alma consolidated school (once upon a time just across the street from Kelly's but now long since closed and demolished). I have always remembered Alma as a wonderful, magical place to be a child. The beaches, the park, the saltwater pool, the safe and quiet streets where kids could ride their bikes til dark and where we knew almost everyone, the rolling banks of fog that would come in to cool off a blistering summer afternoon... and the excitement of being downtown with enough money in our pockets for a sticky bun from Kelly's just as soon as it opened. I remember my sister and I pulling on the locked door, impatient for the 'open' sign to be turned but happy to stand there and smell the baking bread and sea air just a little longer.
We left in 1988 and it was 34 years before I came back. It is still a wonderful, magical place. And Kelly's still makes sticky buns worth standing outside...
