I ordered fish and chips and kids fish and chips and Greek salad. After waiting 45 minutes food was missing items and it was cold and drenched in oil very gross I called restaurant to advise salad &kid's meal missing the lady was very rude offered me instore credit for next time I ordered I advised her I'm not waiting for my food to be given to me for a next time as I paid and food not delivered she acknowledged food was forgotten by her but refused to send back out for delivery and refused to refund my money & hundred up the phone on me horrible experience and I called my credit card company to dispute it my children were hungry I was so tired to cook after a long day at work and I had to re order from Macdonalds as everything was closed I will never deal with this restaurant again gross food horrible service

The Halibut House in Barrie gets so many things right. From the welcoming vibe, great staff and delicious food. You can’t go wrong with this eatery.

The one thing I can’t help but notice is their chips. Next to the truffle fries at Bayside, the ones at Halibut House are the best in Barrie. So many places in Barrie get their fries wrong so the ones at Halibut House need to be highlighted.

They are prepped fresh every morning which includes removing the skins, rinsing/soaking, cutting, partially blanching and then fried as needed throughout the day. This prep ensures the inside of the fry holds enough moisture and less time is needed in the fryer. The fries are perfectly golden crisp with a soft/moist interior.

Their menu is excellent and we love having their fried mushrooms, side Greek salad and either the halibut or king cod with chips. They also have 3 days of fish and chip specials if you’re looking to save a little money.

My only negative is the coleslaw but I just prefer a different kind of slaw so don’t let that deter you.

The owner and staff who work there are wonderful and we always enjoy chatting with them. You can tell they are a great team and keep up with all their customers coming through the door.

The restaurant is always clean and thats also important.

My wife and I went here quite often. At least once per month. Was always good. We went Friday, Dec 24th, and what a nightmare. We ordered the fish chowder, as an app, and halibut and chips. The chowder arrived 15 mins later, and was not fresh or good at all. 2 mins later, the fish and chips arrived. Fries were burnt, and you couldnt get a fork in them. Fish was way over cooked and also tasted somewhat burnt. We sent the chowder back, because we couldnt eat it at the same tome as our meal. The waitress, then asked how the meal was, and we told her it was terrible. She went to the kitchen and started telling the other stsff in a very sarcastic voice, our comments, and almost shaming us. It was a terrible experience. I then asked for the bill, after leaving most of the fries on our plates, and she said she would credit the chowder, which we didnt have a chance to eat anyway. The owner wss right there, and could not of cared less that we were so upset with our meal. NEVER SAID A WORD TO US!! I guess return customers dont matter. Business must be very good to treat his regulars in such a manner. We have told at least 9 people so far, who will not go there again.
