Horsepower Sports Bar & BBQ Grill — Restaurant in Barrie

Terrible experience. We booked a reservation for the Globetrotters basketball event more than a week before attending on Jan 31 2025.

Once at the restaurant we were given a small "late night menu" of 4-5 items (it was 530pm) - which was not disclosed would be the only food available when the reservation was booked and confirmed. I asked our server if there was any other menu options as our kids were not thrilled with the options and was told no, that all that was available to us was shown on the small laminated sheet I was given.

The kids ordered a plate of nachos at $35 which they ate half of. Halfway through our meal I noticed tables beside us had burgers/cheeseburgers and asked our server why they were given that option but we were not. She replied "oh we always have the kids menu options". I reminded her that I clearly asked if there was any other menu options for the kids other than the late night presented and she had said no, which now seemed untrue. She told me "I dont control the menu".

I spoke with the manager who was unapologetic and told us its not the servers problem that we didn't know to ask specifically for a kids menu (which I thought I had done by asking if any other menu was available for the kids) .

UItimately they ended up removing the item from our bill but I can't believe this was the experience.

We overheard numerous tables get up and leave over the lack of options, which we would have also done if we didn't have a planned event in the same building and a lack of time to find...

Visited Saturday October 8, 2022, Colts vs Petes. Ordered honey garlic wings. Bit into a non-drum piece, meat was pink near the bone. Spit out into napkin. Tried the drum piece, worse, pink easily half-way in. Spit that into another napkin. Left both pieces on top of the rest in the bowl that the wings were served in. Now I know rarely to blame servers for improperly prepared food especially when it is not obvious like maybe mold on bread or fungus on something. I got the attention of the server and from about a 5-meter distance she said to my surprise 'No they are cooked.' Astonished I said 'no', to which then she came within 2 feet and she agreed and took them away. Not far away was a gentleman who apologized for the inconvenience. Finding out he was the manager, I mentioned to him that the server did not seem impressed at the start that I wanted help with deciding between 3 dishes (place did not appear busy)...sensing that, I just went with wings. He said he would talk to her. Now I am certainly NOT expecting anyone to get fired over this, but would it be unreasonable to be offered something else or get a comp item of similar value? Location is the only thing keeping this restaurant in business. Food was bad to inedible. I have found fries under my car seat that looked fresher than the ones served with our meals, they had to be 45 mins old. Party plater was burnt and cold. Asked for mild bbq wings and got what must have been their hottest sauce, when we our server to take them back she went to the manager who told her we can have a dipping sauce, that would do nothing to tame the heat that isn’t even a good hot sauce. Refusing to fix their mistake, I didn’t even bother trying to get fresh fries. Burger was alright. Took half an hour to get drink refilled. I recommend if you have to get a table here because the game or event is sold out otherwise that you walk to the concessions in the arena and bring it back...
