We visited Canadian Brewhouse last Friday because the menu advertised many gluten-free options, and two of my friends have gluten allergies — one with severe celiac disease. Unfortunately, we discovered that none of the menu items labeled “GF” were actually safe for someone with celiac disease. One of the items even contained barley, which is a source of gluten. This is not only misleading, but potentially dangerous for customers who are newly diagnosed or unaware of the cross-contamination risks.
Our waitress was kind and I understand she tried to help by consulting the chef. However, my friend still felt judged by the questions asked and left feeling uncomfortable and upset. Despite voicing concerns about safety and even considering leaving, we were assured the food would be safe. The chef recommended tater tots and jalapeño poppers as safe options.
When the food arrived, it was brought out by a different server who was unaware of the allergy details and served the food to the wrong person. This is a major concern, as the original waitress who knew about the allergy should have ensured that the food was served correctly.
My meal, which contained croutons, was mistakenly given to my gluten allergy friend — and if I hadn’t noticed in time, she could have been seriously harmed. And my other friend with celiac and severe gluten allergy even after being reassured multiple times that her food was safe still ended up being glutened and was sick for days.
As a side note, the Smash Burger is the only burger without a GF label, yet we were told by the chef it was one of the only burgers safe to eat as gluten-free option— which adds to the confusion.
I’m sharing this not to criticize the servers personally, but to highlight a serious safety issue that needs urgent attention. Food allergy labeling should be accurate, staff communication consistent, and procedures in place to avoid potentially life-threatening mistakes.
Otherwise we liked the atmosphere and live performance. The hockey stick and golf club utensils were awesome. Unfortunately the...
Read moreThe service here was terrible - 0 stars if I could give it. Our server, Ms. Sarah, was really rude. My friends and I got there at 9 PM and had to wait 15-20 minutes just to be asked for drinks. One of my friends didn't have her ID, so we understood she couldn't order any drinks. When our server finally showed up around 9:20, the first thing she said was that we had to leave by 10 PM and asked if we could finish eating by then. I get your policies, but throwing us out indirectly like that is just not fair.
The service was really bad. I saw our server going to other tables often, but she barely checked on us. Our food came out quickly, probably because other servers were helping her. After taking our order, she disappeared and didn't even ask how we were doing. She said she'd bring napkins but didn't come back for 15 minutes, so we had to ask another server for them. When she finally came back, it was just to ask for payment. At that point, we wanted to order more, but she told us no because it was past 10 PM. We then asked about takeout, and she said minors aren't allowed on the patio after 10 PM, even for takeout. It made no sense since we weren’t drinking or eating, and we weren’t even allowed to sit there. All I can say is we were out by 10:05 after she told us we had to leave.
Not to make any assumptions, I have read all the reviews before coming here, a lot of people have praised Ms. Sarah for being kind and great. I think that they are either her friends or known people. Now a days the reviews are also not truthful at all. Very sad about how reviews are bought and not sincere. Please be careful future customers .
The whole time, we felt looked down upon, which is unacceptable. The food was great, but the awful service and staff ruined our experience. I'd love to know more about your policies because I've read that minors can stay in legal establishments after 10 PM if they're with...
Read moreThis was our second time at The Canadian Brewhouse and we will not be returning.
The first time we visited was last summer on the rooftop patio. We ordered an appetizer and two meals. After a little bit of a wait, my husbands main meal arrived. We were a bit confused as we didn’t get our appetizer and my meal was missing. After waiting several minutes we asked another server for assistance because we could not locate ours. The manager apologized for the discrepancy and followed up with our appetizer and main meals a short while after. Apparently my husbands meal had been entered as the appetizer. They provided us a 15% discount for the issue and free drinks.
We figured we would give it another try today. We had to wait quite a bit before being greeted by the hostess. She was very rude and abrasive when we asked for a table for 3, and questioned us on whether we had made a reservation. We arrived before the dinner rush so assumed it wouldn’t be an issue. We waited several minutes again before being seated to a table and told here you go. It was almost as if we were a bother to her, she was not friendly or inviting. Again had to wait almost 15 minutes for our drink order to be taken. Our food came out after the table next to us, who were seated after we were, and when it arrived it was cold. The chicken was also over cooked. We had to ask for cutlery and so did the table beside us.
There were several servers chit chatting in the kitchen, which we could see from our table. One of the managers was too busy chatting in the kitchen and throwing small pieces of paper or whatnot at the servers, then to be worried about the customer experience and making sure basic things like cutlery were at the tables. We saw several servers at the bar complaining about work and customers, it was very unprofessional.
The food isn’t great and the service is even worse, we definitely will...
