1st time for both of us at this restaurant. We've both been wanting to try this place for a while & broaden our horizon and try a new type of food.
We were greeted by an amazing hostest who made us laugh and we were having so much fun ordering & trying new foods despite our unfriendly waitresses who was unimpressed & rude towards us because we ordered "just water".
Despite her negative attitude towards us we had a blast. Lots of laugh & enjoying each others company.
We ate most of the "All you can eat buffet" food & I was impressed I tried a lot of things out of my comfort zone - raw fish.
We had a small amount of sushie left over (8 out of 30 rolls) & asked politely if we were able to take it home. The waitress got aggressively angry towards us raising her voice, where other customers looked over at us, because we had left over food & we wasted it & we didn't eat it. She told us she was going to charge us to take it home. When we said we wouldn't take it home, she advised us she would charge us anyway.
Rather than match her negativity & her unprofessionalism even though I was getting quiet upset because I could see my dear friend getting upset across the table from me, I spoke calmly and professionally. I explained this was our 1st time to Spoon & Fork. We didn't know that if you had ANY left over good, you would be charged regardless. I expressed that we were having a fun time but that her attitude towards us was ruining the experience, that we would pay the extra charge but that we are never coming back.
She continued to yell at us but that she would waive the extra fee & then ripped things vigorously off the table. All I could do was laugh after she left as I was flabbergasted & outraged of this adult's behaviour.
The friendly hostest who I guess heard our waitress yelling at us came over to see what happened. We both expressed our apologies, that we had no idea the rules. She asked how much food was left & when we advised she said oh that's not a lot, don't worry about it.
Despite how we were treated & disrespected as a paying customer, we still left the place laughing & having a great time. We weren't going to let one waitress ruin a good place that had amazing food.
Next thing I know, our waitress is vigorously banging & smashing on my car window screaming at me. I still didn't match her ugly behaviour. I asked what was wrong and she's screaming at us saying we "Dined & dashed - you didn't pay". I tried calmly to explain that I paid with cash & my friend paid my debit. She was shaking and screaming at us putting her head and arms into my car.
My friend pulled out her reciept to which this lady reached across me and ripped it out of her hand and still yelling at us then walking away shaking.
I could not believe the way she acted and this is not okay yet I still just let her walk away while she was screaming at us in another language.
At this point, I was going to go back in to speak to Owner but was outraged when I saw the owner on the curb yelling as well. It would just fall on deaf ears & I didn't want to waste my positive energy on her or this situation.
On the way home we were still laughing and did not let these people ruin our night. We definitely will not be back to Spoon & Fork as this is not the way to run a business.
To my surprise, the negative comments on Spoon & Fork's reviews for the Barrie location matched our same experience. It's truly sad this establishment does not know how to treat their customers as they do have...
Read more2022 May: 0/5 - BEWARE, PARTIES OF 5+ THEY WILL FORCE YOU TO TIP 15% Seriously, what happened? The food and service here use to be really good to great but now, not even close anymore... -soups: pure salt (2/5) -chicken: poor quality (2/5) -beef: was okay (a 3/5), not great, not good, just okay... -fries: no salt, and the sauce on top was gross (2/5) -garlic bread (2/5) - tasted like melba toast with a tiny amount of garlic and was more like eating overheated bread... -service (1/5) - server was SLOW though it was busy so I get that but was not happy with other aspects of the option setup (really should have 2 menus for larger groups)... -price (0/5) - they add 15% tip to parties of 5 or more...don't even tell you (though it is in the fine print they showed me after), just try and sneak it by without showing you the itemized receipt unless you insist on seeing it...the service today did not earn a 15% tip (I gave over 30% the last time, but this time, the service and food were both bad, really bad)...we waited for 20 minutes at times for items on MULTIPLE occasions...none of us will ever return, the food was atrocious in general, there were problems with some of the sauces where I do believe they were not top quality anymore? Most especially though I was furious about the surprise 15% forced tip in light of the poor service, (the sneaky way the waitress did it) and the poor food quality did not help with justifying that amount of a forced tip... 2021 November & December 5/5 The food is really good! A bit pricey but really great beef (5/5) everything on their all you can eat menu. They cook it to order so you are not get reheated food, only issue for me is their chicken is okay (3.5/5), and their garlic bread I found just okay (3/5), plus their fries were inconsistent (one day was amazing as they added cheese and mayo and gravy to it with spice, another day was just well cooked fries without the extras - yeah I know who cares the beef is amazing)...also the salmon was great...I have pictures will upload them later if I remember as the plating of the food looked amazing as well...interior of the restaurant is very nice and the servers are very friendly and...
Read moreI always loved Spoon and Fork. Would go to the Mississauga location all the time with my friends and family before moving to Barrie. I loved the sizes of the sushi rolls from the Barrie location which I noticed they recently changed but I still ask for the larger sizes as it was one of the perks I loved about this location.
The food here is delicious! I have no problems with it. I’m giving this restaurant a 3 star rating only due to the disappointment I have with the hospitality and service. I’ve worked in the restaurant industry for many years and know how important it is to make the dining experience special to the customers. As a regular who comes here often and orders take out often from the el la cart menu, I was very disappointed today after I had ordered take out while doing training at a nearby facility for my job and when I realized I had some extra time to kill during my lunch brea, the employee told me that I could not eat the food in the restaurant since I had ordered it as takeout. This led me to eat my sushi rolls with soy sauce very uncomfortably in my car before heading back to my on-site training. Unfortunately, this is not the first time I have felt this way. I feel like as a regular who has paid for their meal, I should be treated as a valued customer. It appears that they prioritize customers who order off the All You Can Eat Menu.
It’s a shame because when I first started coming here there was a waiter who would always greet me kindly and remember me as a returning customer and made me feel very valued and welcomed. That staff doesn’t work there anymore, and since his departure, I have noticed the lack of hospitality and don’t feel as welcomed or valued coming to the restaurant. The manager who has served my table and given me my food many times doesn’t seem to ever recognize me as a returning customer nor make an effort to elevate my experience. This makes me not want to eat there as I don’t feel very welcomed or valued.
Food is great and gets brought to the table very quickly. However, I think the team should work on being friendlier to their customers and doing their best to accommodate their needs which will provide a better experience for...
