Born and raised in Barrie, and having spent each year traveling and seeking new culinary experiences, I approach local establishments with both familiarity and expectation.
From the moment one steps inside, there is an undeniable sense of promise. The décor is tastefully composed, the lighting flattering, and the ambience sufficiently sophisticated to suggest an establishment that understands refinement. The bar hums with life — a confident rhythm of clinking glasses and skilled bartenders who seem to be the true artists of the house. For a brief moment, one might believe a memorable evening awaits.
And then, the food arrives.
What follows is a masterclass in disappointment — an uninspired procession of dishes that seem designed more for photographs than for palates. Each plate feels like an echo of something once original, a culinary déjà vu, wrapped in unnecessarily elaborate descriptions meant to distract from a lack of substance. The chef appears to believe that sophistication can be achieved through adjectives and garnish alone. It cannot.
Take, for instance, the so-called signature pork belly. Once a dish celebrated for its decadence — tender, melting, and rich — here it arrives tragically overcooked and desiccated, stripped of all succulence. What should have been an ode to texture and technique becomes an act of culinary neglect: a dried, joyless slab that speaks not of mastery, but of inattention. It is the kind of mistake no serious kitchen should allow to leave the pass.
The flavors — when they appear at all — are timid, diluted, and wholly forgettable. One searches for seasoning, for inspiration, for a whisper of daring — and finds none. The soup presentation was chaotic, a lukewarm spectacle that left the table resembling a careless rehearsal rather than a performance. The desserts, though ambitious in appearance, collapsed under the weight of their own complexity, offering sweetness without soul.
One cannot help but feel that the chef has mistaken confusion for creativity. A dish is not avant-garde simply because it defies coherence. The result is a menu that tries far too hard and achieves far too little — a culinary imposter masquerading as fine dining.
And yet, credit must be given where it is due: the bar no regrets. The cocktails are crafted with genuine artistry — balanced, inventive, and served with precision. The bartenders understand what the kitchen does not: that mastery lies in simplicity executed perfectly.
This establishment should abandon its culinary pretensions and embrace what it does best — being an elegant nightspot with remarkable drinks and fine company. For the food, however, one might find more authenticity and joy in a modest bistro down the street.
I will return — but only for the bar, never for the kitchen. The kitchen, The chef, I fear, has long since left inspiration behind, somewhere between the garnish and the grill....
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Liars Kitchen & Social, and I can honestly say it was one of the best dining experiences I've ever had, if I could give it more stars I would. From the moment I walked in, the warm and inviting atmosphere made me feel I was transferred to Toronto or Miami.
The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed without being intrusive. They checked in on us and made sure our drinks were always topped up! I especially loved their recommendations of the chicken lollipops and beef sliders was absolutely delicious and served in such a sophisticated way! The tenderloin was cooked to perfection, and the flavours were out of this world. They served it with smoke and garnishes that gave that Michelin feel. The menu is tapa style so sharing was great with our table.
What really stood out was the attention to detail, from the beautifully presented dishes to the light decor. I also enjoyed their fantastic selection of cocktails; the paloma was a highlight of the evening but their espresso martinis with custom print garnish gave our table such a special experience as it was our friends birthday, and it had her name printed on top. As soon as we were done our dinner, the space Transform into a nightclub. If that’s not really your field, then you can head downstairs where they have a more casual vibe with softer music playing in a cozy speak easy feel. I appreciate that they have a dress code in effect as well, I am someone is of mature age, it’s refreshing to see this brought to Simcoe Country.
Overall, Liars Social Eatery exceeded my expectations in every way. I can't wait to return and try more of their amazing menu and drinks and enjoy the DJ. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable night out experience. Barrie has never seen anything like this, Everywhere you look there is some kind of detail to submerge in.

I went “looking” for the rest rooms, and bumped into Ali he show me all the rooms and was very kind to me! Thank you for making my first time at LIARS an amazing night! Your kind hospitality is not over looked.
Who ever planned the moving lights, random neon sings around. The atmosphere that the light walks have with the arch lively separate bar from dance floor!
The fog with the red and blue lights are a real funky vibe that gives me a wear house party vibe, especially with a lot of the counter tops being made by stone. Love love love using the business name LIARS as a light fixture, excellent use of space!
Even the bath rooms are perfect. There are about 8 urnals in their own section, and about 20 individuals locked bathrooms only for women!!!
That is the most care taken in each-other department of running a kitchen, a restaurant, a dance club, how to keep the flow of the wash room operate is perfectionism at its peak while offering each person who come in and engages and enjoy there time is perfectly planned!
