I recently had the pleasure of enjoying breakfast at Tippy’s Cookhouse on Bowen Island, and I can’t recommend it enough! Located just steps from the Snug Cove ferry terminal, this charming eatery offers a delightful combination of delicious food, warm hospitality, and a picturesque setting with views of Howe Sound and the North Shore Mountains .
The star of my meal was the Tippy’s Deluxe Egger. This hearty breakfast sandwich features cheddar cheese, grilled ham, a crispy fried potato latka, fresh lettuce, tomato, red onion, and creamy mayo, all nestled within a toasted brioche bun . Each bite was a harmonious blend of flavors and textures, making it a truly satisfying start to the day.
I also indulged in Opa’s Pancakes, a stack of fluffy pancakes served with organic maple syrup . The pancakes were light and airy, with a subtle sweetness that paired perfectly with the rich, flavorful syrup. It’s a classic dish done exceptionally well.
The atmosphere at Tippy’s is equally impressive. The interior boasts a fresh, beachy vibe, while the outdoor patio offers one of the nicest al fresco dining experiences on the island . The staff were friendly and attentive, contributing to the overall welcoming ambiance.
Whether you’re waiting for the ferry, embarking on a morning hike, or simply seeking a delightful breakfast spot, Tippy’s Cookhouse is a must-visit. Their commitment to quality ingredients and thoughtful preparation shines through in every dish. I look forward to returning soon to explore more of their...
Read moreI love this place because of the staff (server Alex was fun, positive/upbeat, efficient and made the meal the best - and a big thank you to staff: Bel, Leslie, Wil, Daly, and chefs Claribel & Gayan). The redesigned restaurant is lovely, especially the new outdoor seating deck and patio. This restaurant is associated with the Bowen Island Pub up the street and And the massive selection of hot sauces on the main serving statuon is great.
Now, the food. The menu is very creative, ans while the the food itself is solid, it needs some tweaking. The Ceddar BLT and the Buddha Bowl were good, but the Beef Stroganoff and fried chicken skillets needed some extra love. The stroganoff was more like a soup the day I was there (first time) - it needed to be thickened up with less sauce. The fried chicken skillet was crispy and I liked the potato Latka underneath, but was not a fan of the sautéed veggies and salad on the side. It’s like seeing great looking dishes but not getting the Big Bang when you taste it. It all looked and sounded good, but the flavour is a bit lacking and the sides were a bit off. But, most others liked their food, so maybe I’m in...
Read moreHonestly came here because a lot of the other cafe’s were closed and we were looking for a mid day lunch. The interior has a very clean look, seems more modern than most places on the island and the service was good.
We got the Yogi Benny and Chorizo Scramble Skillet. Yogi Benny came on deep fried hashbrowns (latka) and a nice large side salad. I felt it was a great choice as the benny in itself was great rich. I enjoyed it and don’t have any complaints. Dad got the chorizo scramble (even though he ordered the chorizo quesadilla) and I didn’t try it myself, but he liked the balance of veggies to eggs. He thought the chorizo was falvourful yet the goat cheese was subtle. Portions are enough to leave full and the dishes were plated well - probably better than most place on the island.
Overall, it’s probably a pricier cafe’s in the area, but the food is good. I wouldn’t say it’s a must try, but if there’s something on the menu that stands out or you want a solid brunch vibe, this place will leave you feeling content. I typically only give 5 stars to places that I definitely will return...
