We’ve heard great things about Tuscany and we’re visiting for the first time. The hostess greeted us and sat us for our reso time at 7:15.
Everything was great so far and within 5 minutes, our server came over. We ordered our drinks and the appy special to begin. Since it was our first time, we wanted to enjoy the experience and not rush order dinner. She then said “so how my kitchen works is you order everything at once.” We grabbed our phones to scan the menu again and trying to quickly make a decision. Then she said “why don’t I go get your drinks and I’ll be back”
Our drinks were delivered quickly and we ordered our mains as well. This was all done at 7:30.
By 8:15, 3 tables had sat down and received drinks plus appies and even one received their mains before we even got our appy. Our server nor any staff member came by to ask if we wanted another drink, more water (water jug was now empty) or to explain by our food was taking so long. Finally by 8:20 our server came over to ask if we wanted more drinks, with waiting almost an hour, we were over it and said no thank you. My boyfriend asked if our food is coming out soon and instead of apologizing and taking ownership (as she clearly just forgot to ring it in by mistake) she blamed the kitchen and other things and said it will be out soon. Another 15 minutes went by - now 8:35 and my boyfriend had to ask again to which 3 minutes later suddenly the appy was at the table.
Our reso was at 7:15 and we didn’t receive our first appy until 8:35.. what upset us the most was the lack of communication and ownership of the mistake as we can clearly see so many other tables who sat after us getting drinks, appies and mains.
We ate and our mains came fairly quickly after. Because we order it all at the beginning, per her directions, we wanted to cancel but didn’t feel we could as no one would come around our table ever unless it was dropping something off.
She asked us to keep our cutlery from the appy so we did. A different server brought our mains and immediately said “my goodness let me grab you a new set of cutlery”.
When the bill came, there was no discount or even mention of “let us take care of your appy or drinks for the wait” the discount isn’t what we wanted but just to own the mess up and try to fix it. Instead she sent a server assistant to take payment and our actual server never came to the table.
The food wasn’t bad - the experience ruined it all and to be honest, felt like a waste of money since we sat for over an hour and then inhaled our...
Read moreI've been a patron of this restaurant for 15 years. It's been part of my boating experience and that of my guests.
Even with the quality of the food and service on the decline over the past year, my son and I trekked to the restaurant and sat at 7:45 pm.
Young Bearded Server took our order. Large pizza and 2 plates of pasta. Here's the dialogue: "the pizza will take about 20 minutes, but I can have the pasta dishes in a matter of minutes" "great", I said, "bring the pasta first and then the pizza"
45 minutes later I catch the attention of Young Female Server with cheese grater and ask: "it's been 45 minutes, any idea where our food might be?"
She goes to make the inquiry. So far so good.
Mature Server (or Manager) appears at my table. "The kitchen is really busy and your order is a bit delayed". I answered: "it's been more than 45 minutes, could you please define what is "a bit delayed"? "I can't say" I persist: "Can you give me an order of magnitude of what we are talking about? 5 minutes? 10 minutes?" She gets exasperated: "you see the people here? They are all waiting for their food. Your food will get here when it's ready". The table next to me made a double take. I looked at my son and told him "we are out of here" He, well, pleaded for his pizza and asked for an extra 10 minutes of patience. I relented. 3 minutes later Mature Server announces that the pizza will be ready in 10 minutes. 8 minutes after that 1 of 2 pasta dishes arrive, not the pizza. I say to Mature Server, "I guess we'll wait for the pizza then". Mature Server to me: "the pizza will arrive when it's ready" and turns around and leaves. The patrons next to me begin apologizing for the rude behaviour, they were so embarrassed. I prepare to leave as Mature Server returns with the second pasta dish. I announce that it has taken 62 years for me to walk out of restaurant. Her comeback? "I'm looking forward to never seeing you again"
I kid you not.
I'm a 20% tipper even when the kitchen screws up. I never punish a server. Ever. I have easily dropped a Grand per season for the past 15 years at this restaurant.
I'm not sure who Mature Server is but she aught to get out of the...
Read moreWe waited all week for the Tuscany Restaurant in Bowen Island to be open and unfortunately we were sadly disappointed with the experience and the meal. Right from my the so called reception through to the meal, everything was a miss. The greeter was unfriendly and made us wait in the street until the waitress was ready for us even though we had a reservation and we were right on time for it. Then after being seated at a table that by the way was sitting crooked , and dripped water constantly o. Our legs , we waited 20 minutes to be asked for a drink/to place our order. The meals were expensive. We had a Caesar salad that cost $14 and consisted of 6 romain lettuce leaves - hardly with the $14 and the plate it was presented in was chipped. Not so different from the chairs whose seats were also ripped and in rough state. When our drinks arrived my wine was flat tasting ie, the bottle had been opened for a too long to be served anyone and the serving size was underwhelming for the cost. They had two specials for the night however in reality they only had one as the other was not available. I was excited to have the pizza and I had called ahead to ensure they had a gluten free option. What was disappointing though was that when I got to the restaurant I found out that the gluten free option was a frozen Udis brand pizza crust which paper thin and flavourless. I therefore opted for the only other special available - the risotto. Claimed to be with heirloom tomatoes, preserved lemons etc. Well first round came and it was cold. When they replaced it all they did was provide the same dish only on a plate that actually was so hot it burned my fingers moving it away from me. It failed to have preserved lemons or heirloom tomatoes, was super oily, salty, watery and quite honestly, disgusting to eat. The plate was no better. Another chipped plate. See the attached pictures. My strong suggestion - stay at home and eat or go early and eat at the Snug Cafe two doors down. They have fantastic food and great service and people. Stay away from the...
