Gem's House of Jerk — Restaurant in Brampton

I ordered a large jerk entree from skip the dishes. This is the AIRPORT ROAD location. The order I received is a wrong order. I got an akee and salt fish entree instead. The moment I opened the bag my skin started itching and instantly my breathing changed because I am HIGHLY ALLERGIC TO FISH! I am very sensitive to fish my whole life. I get instant reaction to the smell, taste and touch which requires me to carry an epipen and puffers with me at all times! I tried reaching out to skip the dishes and I was unsuccessful with getting a contact number. I called the restaurant and the lady said the order was given by order number. My question is why wasn’t the order number confirmed with the courier before he left the restaurant?

I then drove to the restaurant and instantly the lady started giving me attitude. Short lady wearing all red wearing a wig cap on her head. She seem to know my correct order because she took back the wrong order I received and replaced it with my correct order.

No apology was given just attitude. I then asked her how can my order get mixed up? I told her I’m highly allergic to fish and I pulled out my epipen and puffers to show her that it’s no joke. She then says to me “ it was a mistake, it was a mistake. You never made a mistake before?” To me it’s a big deal. Because no one that does not have a fish or peanut allergy will ever know what we experience. (Shortness of breath. Not being able to breath or swallow, breaking out in hives, etc). People die instantly from these food allergies. It will most definitely be a big deal if I or someone have a severe reaction on the spot and gets hospitalized. And the restaurant gets shut down for poor food handling. I could only imagine what happens in the kitchen.

I don’t think I will ever go back to that restaurant again or even order food if this is the “thanks for doing business”...

Food 2/5: Order oxtail with two beef patties. Serving was a lot compared to other restaurants in the area. The oxtail itself was under seasoned in my opinion. It was ok but it definitely was missing some flavour that i just cant explain. Coleslaw was bland maybe just a touch more of dressing. Beef patty was sub par.

Service 3/5: order small oxtail, was told to get large as its more bang for your buck. Not too friendly though, tried to start a conversation but literally no reaction.

Atmosphere 2/5: nothing stands out. Seems like a local joint where students would come to eat their lunch away from school.

Overall 2/5: cant speak on the actual jerk dishes, but the oxtail could definitely be better. Also paid $32.00 for 1 large oxtail, bottle of soda, and 2 patties. Bit too expensive for the quality. I ordered a large curry goat meal on friday the day of that storm,when I got home to open and enjoy the food it was curry tripe and beans disgusting looking!!!!!! I called them that same day and let them know I got the wrong meal and I was not eating that, I will come Monday to get something else. So I came in let the lady in the front sitting down folding napkins non welcoming Vibes and the other lady serving, I let them know I had called in and spoke with someone and told them my order was wrong I did not want the food but they can give me patties instead,, before the girl says we apologize for the mix up she asking what did I do with the food who did I speak with.
