I was initially thrilled when I saw the reviews and read that Brampton had a good ramen place. However when I bought ramen from here (take out, because their dine in was closed), I was heavily disappointed. We ordered two Shoyu ramens, and asked for one without corn. To my dismay, both ramen came without corn. One of them also came without any meat (pork). You can imagine my disappointment when seeing this after driving all the way home. I politely called the place to let them know that there was no meat in one of them (also mentioned the corn) and asked them what could be done, the cashier was polite and apologized. She said that we could come back to get the meat, but we told her we wouldn’t make it back in time (it was near closing, and we also wouldn’t want to drive back). She said she could offer us credit for the one ramen without meat, I asked if they did refunds, and she said yes if we paid with credit (we did).
We didn’t get time to go back the next day, so we went the day after. When I got there I just re-explained the situation. They remembered, but then only gave us a refund of $3. I was shocked, I told him that we were told we would get a refund for one ramen, he said that because we ate the ramen,(which we didn’t even end up eating cause the whole meal regardless of this ordeal was not even good, I have made better ramen at home!) Anyway, I took the $3 and politely told him that next time he should clarify that it would only be a partial and small refund, (the ramen was $15!) because we wouldn’t have driven all the way back just for $3! The owner said that the cashier messed up, even though we heard her asking him everything and she only relayed his response. He was being really disrespectful especially when all I said after this whole situation was that next time they should be more clear (and I said it politely as well!)
This was an unpleasant experience, and I will not be returning to this restaurant ever again. I would give zero...
Read moreEDITED: May 24, 2025 I'm reducing my rating of this restaurant to 2/5 from 5/5. I have been a customer for literal decades, since before the brick and mortar location existed and it was still housed at the old Shopper's World food court.
The teriyaki and sushi in particular used to be great, but since the original owner retired (around ~2015 or so) and returned to Japan, the quality has been steadily declining. Immediately, there were instances where I could tell they started cutting costs. For example, over the years the soy sauce was often a different brand whenever I'd come back, as if they just went with whatever was on sale that week (and they have not had the original Japanese brand that was used for decades). There was also an instance where all my sushi tasted like soap. I looked past all of these "little" issues and continued to have faith.
The previous owner, Toshi, seemed to really care about quality and consistency. This was evident both in the food and with how many regulars there seemed to be.
It seems it's reached a new low recently. I was incredibly disappointed in the service and the food my last two visits -- both within the past 2 months. First, it took at least 5 minutes for me to get anyone's attention. There's a bell at the front to call for assistance but no one came. I even saw a worker peek out at me and still walk away.
The cost of their sashimi has increased by 50% over the past year. I also purchased 3 large orders of teriyaki, no rice (planned to make rice at home) and instead of the ratio of protein and veg being proportionate, they added more veggies and ONLY veggies. I essentially paid $71 to have 3/4 of my order be vegetables. Not to mention they are also putting less protein in their teriyaki now to begin with. This is ridiculous and I am incredibly disappointed. Toshi should have closed the restaurant instead of selling it to the person running it now. I will not...
Read moreEDIT I have taken off two stars from my previous review. After coming back a few times, I no longer order sushi from this location. My cousin used to work at this place and has also agreed with me that the sushi here is no longer quality. I have received dry fish and stale tempura on two occasions. What really finished it for me was when I ordered a dynamite roll to go, and everything was mushy and clearly not fresh. The only items we enjoy still from this location is the teriyaki (mainly take out).
Original Review: My favourite place for Japanese food in Brampton, I only wish that it didn't cost so much. After having lived in Toronto, you can get really good sushi for much cheaper so I did deduct a point for that. I was initially worried when I heard that Toshi was moving back to Japan and sold it to one of his long time workers but upon many visits thereafter, the quality has not changed and the food is still amazing.
For dining in, the ambiance is really romantic with lanterns and soft wood, the servers are polite and quite nice occasionally checking in to pour more tea and make sure everything is okay. The take out service next door is friendly, though I do have experience where some of the workers are less nice and rushed you.
The food is really good, there isn't a time when I ordered something I didn't like on the main menu. It is fresh and carefully prepared. I especially love the spider roll, futo maki, and unagi don. For take out teriyaki, I recommend getting the sauce separate, it is much...
