Will keep this nice and simple, I honestly had high hopes with this spot but everything ended up a disapointment. There were a few factors I need to discuss which involves customer service and food quality issues. The waiter and waitress that served us was being passive aggresive.
The first topic I would like to talk about occured as soon as we got into the establishment. In the beginning everything looked nice and clean, and seemed like a spacious place with nice comfortable seating. Almost immediately we were told to wait approximately 15-20 minutes before being seated. I will give this a pass however, as this was a holiday and the place seems understaffed.
When we got to our seats, we were given the usual greetings and got to order. However it took another 20 minutes to wait for someone to take our order. When the order was made, it took an additional approx 30 minutes to wait for our food. While we were waiting for our food, I cant stop noticing a few waitresses and waiter wandering around and not taking orders. Not a lot of attention was given until we started waving them to us.
When we got our food (mine was the Big Pannekoek) presentation was good, simple and seemed appetizing. When i took my bites, i instantly thought of the food to be sub par at best, nothing special at all. Sausage patty was salty, bratwurst was lacking some flavor but was passible, pancake crepe was alright, hollandaise sauce tasted more like gravy, potatoes were alright but underseasoned, and bacon was saggy.
From my other friends orders, big bennie was salty and didnt offer much and the sausage was mostly cold, my other friend that ordered the chorizo beni which mostly tasted fine except for the underseasoned potatoes. However, the biggest complaint I heard were the fruits. Frozen fruits, pear wasnt cored properly and my friend ended up with a sliver of a dragonfruit (paper thin). Coffee was alright, but wasnt fresh.
When we finished we requested a waitress for the bill, we waited for an additional 20-25 minutes yet again with no response. When we noticed nobody was coming to deliver us our bills, we had to flag down a waiter (with long black hair) for our bill, he said ok and ignored us completely, giving us a disturbing glare in the process. A few minutes later we finally recieved our bill from the same waitress with a dead pan expression on her face. After when we left, we noticed that the same waiter with long black hair gave us another disturbing glare. Another issue I have is one of my friends got upcharged 4 dollars for no reason.
Overall a very negative experience and had many issues. I had high hopes that this place could at least achieve an up to par experience, as indicated by the reviews. In turn we were met with a semi hostile environment and sub par food. Do not bring your family and friends to this establishment, we will not come back here, there are many better alternatives that would charge you less and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreItās been a number of years since my last visit to Angelinaās Dutch Corner but theyāve recently moved into a new location at the River Market at the Quay. Iāve got to admit that I like their new digs⦠much more open, airy, and bright compared to their last location. The only bad thing here is that the noise inside the restaurant seems to echo and amplify making for a loud din.
On this first revisit, I decided to get The Big Bennie ($17) which comes with bacon, sausage, ham, and turkey bacon along with a generous fruit bowl. For my poached eggs, I asked for medium (they said their medium would be a bit runny in the yolk) and one of the eggs was pretty good with a creamy, slightly runny yolk. But the other egg was slightly overdone. Still, this was a nice benny and the herbed potatoes turned out quite well too.
There were so many different types of fruit in the fruit bowl⦠orange, kiwi, mango, strawberry, blueberry, cherry, peach, grape, pineapple, honeydew, cantaloupe, watermelon, berriesā¦.
Although Iām not a vegetarian, I thought Iād give their Vegetarian Benedict ($15) a try. It comes with spinach, tomato, avocado, havarti and poached eggs. This was actually pretty good and I was surprised that I didnāt miss the meat. Again, a solid selection of fruit in the accompanying fruit cup.
Okay, so you knew that IT would eventually show up⦠and by āITā I mean the Big Pannekoek ($18). While youāve probably heard of pannekoek from that other Dutch breakfast joint, you should give the one at Angelina a try. They werenāt kidding⦠this is huge. The feather-lite crepe-like pannekoek is topped with an ample supply of meat (yeah, I know I did a complete 180 from the Veggie Benny that I had before) with the likes of ham, bacon, sausage patty, bratwurst, and eggs⦠all served with some hollandaise sauce on the side. Definitely enjoyed the crisp bacon here.
Came back on a weekend and ordered the Fully Loaded Hash ($16) and Fresh Fruit French Toast ($17) with some Hot Chocolate. Now, I know that hash is, well, hashed up. But they werenāt kidding⦠all of the ingredients in the hash were chopped up so it was difficult to tell what everything was. I guess thatās the point. But I did really like the edam cheese as well as the sourdough toast.
Okay, the thing to know about Angelinaās is they are quite popular so it always seems busy here. Even on a weekday lunch, service is slow despite how many people they have working here. If youāre coming here on a weekend for breakfast/brunch⦠expect things to be slow⦠like really, really slow. That being said, the food is good and Iād come back just for the fresh fruit cup the accompanies many of...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAsked to sit at patio, we told them we were just going to have drinks. They seemed fine with that, and even asked a couple to move so they can shift the tables for us. Later, after ordering just soda, they said we have to order food or we will have to leave. We told them that we had forewarned them we had intentions for only drinks and they said we never told them this and that in order to have free refills, we have to buy food as well, which they dont have any policy for or any notice anywhere. Surrounded by people who are also just drinking, we decided to buy 1 thing to eat to start. We were then asked that we must buy more or we have to leave, while most would have at the least worded it differntly if they didnt want someone who wasnt a high payer here. We did not feel welcome nore respected. We just wanted to drink as we had informed them, all the while others around us are only drinking and have been since we go here. One group was drinking and eatting popcorn they brought from outside the restaurant, but they were fine to stay. Another couple beside us was drinking and on there phones. And that was fine as well. Everyone in the restaurant was asking to sit on the patio to watch the fireworks as we were. But they didnt need to buy anything, as we watched them only drink as we were. Manager was the least polite when it came to us just drinking. I had even brought it to her attention that the way we were being treated wasnt fair, had told her i had informed her staff our intenions(in front of the one staff member who was had asked directly) and the manager told me i did not, basically that i was lying, and the other staff member that we told at the begining just agreed with her manager (which i understand, agree with your boss... Who wouldnt in her situation) we were frustrated for sure over how we were treated, and of course how the manager of all people spoke to us. If something is free refills, dont complain when they ask for refills. If you want people to only recieve free refills with the purchase of food, hang it up somewhere, put it anywhere. If someone tells you they want something specific or only want drinks, dont just nod and then make it into an issue after they got their drinks and sat down. We wont be eating or drinking here ever. If we dont want something, we arnt going to take it easy if you pressure us into something...
