After trying almost everything on the menu, this place was a solid 4.5/5 = 5/5 service but 4/5 food (great but not perfect, more feedback below)
Positives: the fries are excellent and the flavour and amount of crisp/fry on them is perfectly authentic consistency to be put in poutine. The double cheeseburger (I recommend that over the big James burger to get more crispy meat per bite) was an unbelievable surprise, it hits a specific niche of super simple smash patties with ultra soft bun that compresses well, American cheese, low on dressings so that the meat and cheese can shine! I cannot believe one of the lower mainlands best burgers is at a quebecois-fare eatery, it beats a lot of diners and dedicated burger joints! the maple ice cream swirl, so well done. Subtle sweetness, not overdone or artificial tasting.
Negatives: the poutine was great and tasted authentic but not quite perfect, only a 4 or maybe 4.5 out of 5 for me. I thought it could have some more cheese curds. It also looks like she uses St. Huberts gravy, which is great, but Iâm not sure if there is anything else added to it to make it special/unique to Annys. Itâs still an excellent poutine, better than 99% of others in metro Vancouver, but I think La Belle Patateâs gravy is a little better and more memorable. I would still come back to annys, and I would still get the poutine. Just wish it was better than La belle to save me the drive. the Montreal smoked meat was similarly great, but just not quite perfect. 4/5, but still in the top 3-4 Montreal smoked meat sandwiches in metro Vancouver. The meat was moist which was great, but it could have been more fatty. Brodeurs Bistro still has the better sandwich, but I respect what Annys does. prices are objectively high for the portion sizes, relative to other places. But I respect there are overhead costs and I respect that Annys is doing a special service to us providing authentic quebecois food. Thatâs why I wouldnât hesitate to pay the prices again.
Service is excellent and friendly, definitely a reason to come back and support.
Atmosphere is classic Quebec fast-foodish poutine place vibes. Not a gourmet looking place, not necessarily gourmet fancy food either, but itâs excellent...
Read moreThat lady who was working yesterday sunday in the afternoon was so mean and rude while taking orders. There is this old lady who was ordering her food in front of me and you can see how mean she talks to that lady, is that how you talk to your grandma? She doesnât smile or even say hi and thank you. Then here comes my order I ordered kitkat hurricane and I just observed how she prepare then suddently this kitkat she crushed it with her bare hands and some of the chocolates left in her working area wihout wiping where she crushed it and scoop it woth her bare hands and put it my cup! Imagine? I asked her and she just answered âoh it was just a left over from kitkatâ I just didnât respond and just walk away and throw away that ice cream. I wander if she take her food safe before having this job. I dont know if she was just having a bad day or its just her attitude. You are still young so you can still chnage the way how you...
Read moreJust tried the poutine. Oh yeah it really hit the spot. Tried poutine with smoked meat. The gravy is amazing. The fries are excellent. Meat was good. The flavour profile is just perfect.
My favourite think I noticed was the temperature of the Gravy. It was extra hot really melts the cheese curds. I like mine melted and stringy, so was a nice plus. I know some poutines people like ââem squeaky the cheese but for me I prefer it more melted.
I ordered a regular size . Was a good size , not too full. But I recommend large size for the â full experienceâ. I believe the fries are home made? Really good.
Tried ice maple twist. Excellent. Kids liked it, I really loved it.
I will be back to try the smoked meat sandwich and a hot dog. I want to compare it to what I had in Montreal haha. I donât want to get my hopes up too high. But itâs really cool to have a real French poutine place so close to home. And all this time it was...
