In the realm of fast food fried chicken, Mary Brown's on Brown Street in Burlington stands out—not because it’s exceptional, but because it surpasses its competitors, which often fall short. After a less-than-impressive initial visit, I decided to give Mary Brown’s another try, ordering via Uber Eats. It was a delight to find chicken tenders back on the menu, which had been temporarily removed.
Unfortunately, my excitement was short-lived. The chicken strips were notably dry, and the batter was sparse, peeling off easily. It seemed to differ from what I remembered; perhaps a change in recipe? The tenders, though back on the menu, had unexpectedly turned spicier. This change wasn't to my liking as the spice level overwhelmed the chicken’s natural flavors.
Comparatively, their regular chicken pieces were decent, maintaining a consistent quality with previous experiences. They were certainly better than KFC and Popeyes, indicating that while Mary Brown's may have slipped in its franchise quality, it still holds a competitive edge.
Despite my critiques, this isn't a negative review. It's more moderate: I'm not thrilled, but I'm not terribly disappointed either. I appreciate that Mary Brown’s still offers a reliable fast food option. I’ll likely order again, though with tempered expectations.
To Mary Brown's corporate: it's clear that changes have been made to your chicken tenders—smaller size, different breading. These alterations have not gone unnoticed and feel like a downgrade. Reflecting on how KFC has evolved, there's a lesson here. Quality cuts and recipe changes can harm a brand’s reputation. Mary Brown's has the potential to rise above the fray. Maintain your standards, don’t compromise on quality for cost-saving measures. Stand out by being the premium option, not by following in disappointing footsteps.
In sum, while Mary Brown’s manages to outshine its direct competitors, there's room for improvement to meet the memories of what once was. I hope to see Mary Brown's embrace its strengths rather than...
Read moreQuite a bit surprised: without exaggeration, I practically visit this restaurant every day since starting a new job across the street. Chicken and fries are always fresh and delicious. Yesterday, I was handed a bag (first time as I always get a plate) and literally after taking a few steps away from the counter and looking into it, I see that the burger is thrown in there, chicken on the bag with lettuce/sauce all over the place. I politely take it back and tell them about the situation, they respond by saying that they had place it there “nicely”, I acknowledge that sure, but someone probably forgot to close the lid/box. They said that’s “impossible physically as it was put there nicely”. I said that sure, but I just took 4 steps away in front of you, I did not leave the store, you can see me walking right there. The whole discussion is pointless as the chicken is splashed and sandwich requires assembly. To add insult to injury, the fries/poutine is very mushy and tastes stale for the first time since I started visiting some 4 months ago. My guess is that this was probably purchased by someone at the drive-through and they didn’t want it or someone on Uber or something cancelled. The food was stale, it was splashed all over the place, and the whole thing is different than what I get literally every day. I find it strange that they’d rather lose a return client who visits daily just to save on a few bucks! Won’t be returning. It was good while it lasted, I guess it’s time to give great many restaurants...
Read moreI had an issue before with this location, and the manager was amazing, took care of me and made it up too me! I live and work around the corner, and man I appreciate the big Mary! Especially on Mondays! But, my sister in law is staying with us and was craving a big Mary, so naturally, bin happy to grab some. The manager told me before to confirm my order to ensure its made right, and I do! Everytime! This time, I confirmed, 1 big Mary, extra regular mayo, and 1 big Mary extra spicy mayo, and asked they please label the boxes as my sister in law is pregnant and can NOT eat anything spicy... Well guess what, both were extra SPICY mayo... And as a pregnant women, she just dove right in, why wouldn't she? My box was labeled spicy, her was not. Man was she sick and uncomfortable all night. Dam, I felt awful, thank God she only ate a few bites.... Maybe I should find another place... Anyways... The staff was super pleasant in the drive-threw.
Update, ummm, how can you not punch in 1 big Mama with spicey mayo and one with regular mayo? I don't understand, I asked for 2 big Mary's, she said spicey or regular, I said one spicey and one regular, and please label the box, because my sister in law is pregnant and can't eat anything spicy, then as a result, I get two spicy sandwiches, one labled spicy and one labled regular. How is that a customized order? Are you nuts?
Update! Owner took care of the issue. Was pleasent and understanding. Food was great and will continue to eat...
