Recently, Hi Five Chicken opened up a new location on Kingsway in Burnaby. I had a bit of trouble finding this place because I wasn’t expecting it to be in a part of the former Earl’s location and walked right past it a couple of times before realizing it was there.
I would up ordering online (which was pretty easy and came with 10% off). On my first visit here, I picked up the Home Style Spicy Chicken Sandwich ($8.45 + $1.15 for added bacon) and paired it with Mac and Cheese Bites $5.95). Both of these items really fell sub-par in my opinion… especially when you see pictures of what their menu says it looks like. The mac and cheese definitely isn’t worth it and has very little mac and cheese on the inside. As for the spicy chicken sandwich, the menu says it comes with a spicy mayo sauce but it actually just came with a little packet of hot sauce… definitely not a creamy spicy mayo sauce that’s for sure.
I did come back and order from their regular chicken menu and found that it’s better. The 10pc Family Meal comes with 5 legs and 5 wings, 3 large sides, and a two-litre soft drink… overall, a good value and their fried chicken is pretty good. My only complaint is that the chicken here seemed excessively oily (I know, I know… it’s fried chicken).
I’ve been to a few of their other locations and they’re usually pretty good. Hoping that the quality goes up a bit at this location as they work out their grand...
Read moreWaited 57 MINUTES for a $9.99 order.
It's my first time at this restaurant and I just wanted some fast food. I ordered at the counter and the restaurant was empty on a Friday 9pm. I ordered the same item as the first review I saw on here.
After ordering I stood for a while, then sat at the closest table next to the counter. After 30 minutes of waiting, I went up to check what's up. The employee told me they are making fresh rice and will be 10-15 more minutes. At this point I realized they forgot to make my order since I saw many tickets come and go. They offered some extra fries for the wait. 40 minutes wait is already pretty ridiculous but I get some fries.
In the end, it took 57 minutes, I showed him the timestamp for when my bank messaged me about the payment.
During this entire time I saw a couple order, get their food, finish eating, another two people order, get their food and sit at THE SAME TABLE as the previous customers, finish, and I still had to wait.
Many uber orders get put in and finished. The restaurant was pretty much empty the whole time.
If he had told me it would take 10-15 minutes at the start, I would've ordered something else to begin with, let alone 57 minutes.
Giving 2 stars since he gave me some fries. Absolutely wasted my Friday evening from a long day of work. The rice tasted terrible also, like mush, I should've just gone to the many other fried chicken...
Read moreCame to this spot along Kingsway, almost across the street from Metrotown, on a Saturday evening around 7:30pm. It wasn't too busy and we were able to put in an order without waiting at all. A quick scan of the menu makes you think about other deep-fried chicken outlets like Church's, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and Popeye's Chicken. We ordered a chicken sandwich and a 10-piece order of regular (not spicy) fried chicken wings, with a Family/Large order of French fries. The service staff was friendly and courteous, and the food came out in a few minutes after we placed the order. We carried away instead of eating in the restaurant because we were trying to get back to the nearby Hilton hotel, but we would have ate the food there, given there were several tables and chairs inside the restaurant (they also have tables and chairs outside on a small patio, if the weather was nicer/warmer). All in all a decent service of deep-fried goodness, but the chicken wings seemed a bit pricey ($18-plus for an order of 10 wings that weren't really that big). Nowhere to park your car except along Kingsway (if that's possible) or one of the...
