HANDS DOWN ONE OF THE BEST JAPANESE RESTAURANT IN TOWN
We miss this place so much (we moved 2 hours away) and was not able to take a photo of the food.
THE PLACE • It is a secret gem located at the heart of Burnaby, they have a free parking at the basement of the building. To avail of the free parking, you have to scan the QR code in their restaurant. Once in the parking, their is a lift that you can access to go on the second floor where the restaurant is located. • Inside the restaurant, the seating areas are well planned, their is a cubicle seat for privacy and their is a table with pullout chair as well. So even if the restaurant is full, you don't feel crowded at all.
THE FOOD • Their food is prepared fresh as you order, the size of all their servings are massive, but the highlight will be the taste - ALL MEALS THAT WE ORDERED WERE DELIGHTFULLY DELICIOUS. Tasty but not salty, you can see their respect for food preparation and presentation. • Don't miss their Salmon Toro Aburi, Tuna Toro Aburi, Jalapeño Chicken, Oshi Suhsi, Sashimi (very big servings) and their milk ice cream! • All their meal is reasonably price. Just a tip, check theirmenu and look for "Kozara" section, there you will find sampler sizes of some of their dishes, and their serving is not a sampler size, it can feed 2 people easily. They also have a "Special Offer" in the menu, which allows you to combine selected items from 2 to 4 combo at a reasonable price.
THE STAFF • The staff is another highlight for this restaurant, they are very respectful, attentive and go a regular run around the restaurant to check if you need anything. They also have a bell button to call for service if needed.
This restaurant is always our family go to restaurant for Japanese food, we love the food, the ambience and the friendly staff. So if you love reasonably priced food that is sumptuous and generously portioned, then look no further, go to Hon Sushi...
Read moreFood was bland and uninspired — rolls lacked flavor and my wife’s sushi garden salad was tasteless and unappealing. Service was just okay, and their “solution” to a quality complaint was offering ice cream. Ambiance was noisy, dark, dated, and forgettable. I do not recommend this place to anyone.
Food The overall quality was mediocre at best. The rolls I ordered lacked any memorable flavor — flat, uninspired, and forgettable. My wife’s sushi garden salad was even more disappointing: tasteless, visually unappealing, and missing the freshness and balance one expects from such a simple dish.
Service Service was just adequate. While staff were polite, they seemed disengaged. When my wife raised the issue of her salad’s poor taste and presentation, the only gesture offered was a complimentary ice cream — a mismatch that felt more like a distraction than a genuine attempt to resolve the complaint.
Ambiance The space is functional but uninspired, with high noise levels and minimal atmosphere. It feels more like a high-capacity turnover spot than a place to savor a meal.
Verdict Hon Sushi may draw some with its varied menu, but on execution, it falls short in flavor, presentation, and overall dining experience. Based on this visit, I do not recommend this...
Read moreLove this sushi store! Amazing service, amazing staff, nice food.
I went to hon sushi for couple times before I write this review. Every time when I order takeouts, they invited me in to take a sit at a regular table and offered me drinks, this is not something I normally receive at other restaurants. It not a big deal but it shows their respect to you and the hospitality to do business with any customer. The service is outstanding and I felt I am treated with caring hearts.
The food quality is not bad, above average at this price point. I don’t like sushi so I never really ordered any. The sashimi is fresh and good quality, again for how much you paid.
There is a barrier between each table, you are close to other customers but you still get that privacy, I don’t know if that is how its designed for, it achieved this purpose. The entire place is clean, and I only wish the owner put a little more thinking on how to light the place, the atmosphere could be much better with just a little change.
Overall, it’s a nice choice if you want Japanese/Korean style food. You won’t regret any dime spent here.
I’ll definitely come here for sure next time. And I do recommend you...
