A few years ago, as I was looking for a Mexican food place, I ended up at La Taqueria Pinche Taco Mexican Place on Yukon St, Vancouver. As I went to the bar to get a drink, I was greeted by Jorge, I figured that by the way he treated me, he was the owner of the place. Because of that welcoming I kept coming back in almost a weekly basis. In one of our conversations, Jorge told me about the opening of another Taqueria at the Amazing Brentwood …..and to make the story short…..
I visited the new location at Brentwood and the location is fantastic, right in the plaza with an overview to the water fountain. I’m have been enjoying my visits there this summer …the nice breeze while having some taste nachos and an exotic mezcal margarita it give you the feeling that you are in a tropical country….mini paradise in Canada. The place is fantabulous!!!The atmosphere is cool and again the staff is really friendly. The bartenders are awesome, always attentive to make sure you are having a good time. They look like they are having fun working there and at the same time, making sure that the customers are happy is their main priority. Great service is their game. And at the kitchen, again, working their magic preparing your meal. I brought my family and also I have told some of my friends about it. They have made us feel welcomed and gave us an amazing experience, time after time. The ambiance is very welcoming and charming. This is one of my favourite restaurants, the food is always fantastic and no matter what I order I am always delighted with my meal and the variety of drinks, especially the “margaritas”, the “Sinnerman” and of course the “Pacifico”. It’s a fantabulous place to hang around. Great atmosphere with really nice people. Through the times coming to the Taqueria, I developed a great friendship with Jorge, and based on my business experience and Jorge’s personality, I strongly believe that he is a great candidate to be the business regional/partner owner operator to run the...
Read moreI went there with friends in February 2024 for lunch (4 of us) and it is very easy getting there from the Skytrain (preferable) as it’s right at Brentwood as you walk towards the mall. Uber or to drive is fine, as there is parking around there.
The restaurant itself is a nice hang out spot, seating at the bar, tables lined up in the middle and on the side facing the main area/Skytrain. The bartender and our fellow that seated and helped with our drink suggestions was awesome.. they were happy and looked like they enjoyed what they were doing and interacting with patrons. The female servers, they just seated people and tidied up tables as they went along, not as positive, but pleasant enough.
The table in the middle that we were seated at was a bit lower, the metal chairs were so hard and uncomfortable the whole time. No where to really put your jacket or purse-I had mine squished behind me in the chair. We didn’t have much space at all on the table-anyone with back issues could ask to be seated at the higher chairs/table or long one by the back exit.
I had the pulled chicken, but it was (quesadilla maybe) strangely - mushy, but flavourful. I would not order it again though.
The drinks were good margarita (happy hour), thanks to our server’s suggestions he was great. My asthma all of a sudden kicked in with bad cough because someone’s drink at the bar had smoke added to it by the bartender which wafted through our area a few minutes. Horrible! Anyone with allergies or asthma would of been affected by it.
Friendly suggestion to note on your website that adding smoke-may be part of the drink making process. Some sudden asthma/coughing attacks can become an emergency situation.
Overall, I personally wouldn’t go back however for majority of people - it’s a fun, good vibe, great music and cool spot. *I would like to add that they do have a good number of menu items to choose from and I’m sure there is something for you here that...
Read moreAs a native Oaxaqueña, I harvested and consumed huitlacoche (corn fungus, or corn truffle), with my dear grandparents, back in Mexico. When I saw this item on the menu, it took me back to beautiful memories that I spend in the corn fields as a child. It has been a long time since I had this delicacy and was looking to the flavor of huitlacoche. So, I asked the server, Cinthya, to give me two huitlacoche tacos and one asada. To my surprise and not to mention my big disappointment, I was served tacos with button mushrooms and some corn kernels added to it. I pointed out to Cinthya that the contents of my tacos weren’t huitlacoches, but just regular, ordinary button mushrooms. I spread out the content to show her that the huitlacoche was missing. I told her that I’m extremely familiar with huitlacoche, as I had consumed it for many years. After I told her that and basically saying to her that I’m not a fool, and that perhaps they can sell regular mushrooms as huitlacoche to Canadians (who don’t know what huitlacoche is), she admitted that they didn’t have any huitlacoche. But, if I didn’t know what huitlacoche is, I would have been lied to. It really upset me that they tried to sell me an item that isn’t what it is supposed to be. Therefore, it gets one star only because she was polite, and she didn’t charge me for the tacos. However, that doesn’t make me want to return to this place. Why can’t they be honest right from the beginning and let me decide if I want mushroom tacos, or order something else? The best part of this experience was the mineral water I had, because the guacamole was missing some lime juice, it wasn’t guacamole, it was just mashed avocados, plain and no flavor. Yet, they charge you so much for it, aa if the avocados come from mars or they are almost extinct. Never coming back! Ahora sí, se pasaron! Son unos mentirosos y me dieron gato...
