Well, upon arrival, I was the only customer there. That being said, I did receive good service. Asking how my first few bites were, staying on top if things, updating what's left... Food was good, I was questioning if I should order seafood as it was my first time there but with no customers, concerned about the freshness of it. Turned out the food was better than I expected, keeping in mind I wasn't expecting too much. The skewers wasn't anything extraordinary, pretty standard like many others. Little things I found better flavor wise as I'm a cilantro kinda guy, I love the stronger aroma flavor, so more cilantro the better. Items were hot (steaming). Lots of garlic items, something I love. Prices were fair. I think these skewer places have something I really dislike in common are that most skewers start from 5 skewers. It's very difficult for 1 or 2 people to try different types of meat when it starts from 5. I would be ordering more skewers and critique more if I didn't have to stuff myself with only 3 types of meat (15 skewers for 2 people). I had the chicken skin, but amd that was the worst dish ever. They need to change the oil. Its closer to black chicken skin. Salty and overcooked, its very basic to know that bad oil turns everything saltier and gross and dark. But overall, I feel like it's more 4.5 than 5 stars, but google doesn't do halves, and I feel it's not 4,...
Read moreThis is newest Chinese BBQ restaurant in the lower mainland to open in north Burnaby. The service was excellent and attentive. The servers explained parts of the menu, the dishes and their spice levels. The food is in the style of mainland Chinese BBQ so half of the menu will be filled with skewers. Overall the food was tasty, flavourful and not over-spiced so you could taste other foods. The pork belly skewers were very juicy and the lamb and beef were similar to other places like the Richmond Night Market. The chicken wings was exceptional and the fish balls were quite delicious. Their other non-skewer dishes were quite impressive as well. One of the standouts was the black fernroot noodles served cold in a zesty soy vinegar sauce which is uncommon to see on the menu. The hot dishes of garlic vermicelli and sauerkraut pork belly dishes came out in tin foil containers and were quite well done. The drink menu is decent but not extensive but there are many non-alcoholic asian drinks. The ambiance of the restaurant is quite relaxed and comfortable and the service was quick but it was half empty when I was there. It may get quite busy once people discover how good this place is. A great distinctive restaurant to go with...
Read moreWe always come to this restaurant as a family, and usually everything is great. But this last visit was very disappointing. We ordered 6 chicken wings, but only 3 were served. We had to argue for a long time to prove that we only received three. We ordered 5 BBQ cabbages. On the way, one was dropped, and we ended up with only two pieces. Then they brought us something completely different — a skewer with just one piece of tofu — and placed it on our table for no reason. In the end, we pointed out that we had only received 3 cabbages instead of 5. After some time, they brought us one more, but we still never received the full order. We decided to let it go.
But it didn’t stop there. When I got the bill, I noticed that an extra dish was added — not just once, but listed as 5 portions! At that point, I lost my patience.
I can understand if there’s one mistake, maybe even two. But when the whole evening is filled with errors and then we are expected to pay for them, it feels like the staff is just playing with us.
The food, as always, was very tasty — but I went home upset and disappointed with the way we...
