6 stars. I would rate this place amongst my top 5 in Vancouver. Delicious food and drinks, super cheap prices, and kind service! Love the 80s 90s vibe.
The first thing that caught my eye was souvlaki, so I thought this was a Greek restaurant. But it was a pleasant surprise to know they serve sandwiches, burgers, pastas, and grilled meats! One can definitely see an HK cafe influence, but trust me, the food is one of the most authentic and as Western as I've ever had! The portions are humungous, and the prices are eye popping cheap! Most entrees are less than $10 and can feed you twice. They also have daily specials with rotation both for lunch and dinner. With a drink, you can get dishes for as cheap as $5. And most dishes have small portions so you can mix and match. In 2021 you can't beat this deal.
The food came quick and hot. The pasta was done just right and steaming hot with thick sauce. Condiments like red chili and parmesan cheese were on the house unlimited. The open plan kitchen concept is cool and you can see your food being prepared. The garlic bread was soft, juicy, well seasoned and delicious!
The server Alecia, was a kind lady with a pleasant demeanour, quickly assigned a table and gave the menus. Though she was the only one, she always had a smile on her face, and efficiently managed 6-8 tables with a total of 15-20 pax. She always came round to ask if anything was needed and I never found myself waiting to call her. One of the best servers I have met in all of Lower Mainland. All the other staff such as bartender and cooks are amazing too. Kudos, great team work!
The decor has nice touches with hues of red and Italian paintings and photographs. Lighting is warm and subdued, music is calm and doesn't disturb conversation. Washrooms were super clean and they have ample free parking.
If you're ever in North Burnaby, you must try this restaurant. Even if you're not, I assure you its well worth the drive, for the 3 Ps - prices...
Read moreA friend and I get to X-Site on Monday (March 24th) at around 3:45pm, decided to order the special of the day (steak 8.95); the server said, dinner special starts at 4:30pm for us... so we figured we'd wait.
We were starving, and decided that we should at least order a couple of drinks... I could see that my friend was famished, and asked what the time was? I said, 4:10pm, then he peruses the menu again.
He said, the server could have said, hey... you know what? You're okay for the lunch special still (yes, because we arrived before the lunch deadline of 4:00pm); however, the server said nothing (what an absolute darling of a server - they went from hero to zero in less than two minutes per my calculation).
My friend said, the server had a severe case of the attitudes when we walked in. I got frustrated and called the server over to our table and said, get us the bill.
Before a hasty exit, I gave the server a piece of my mind and a speech on customer etiquette and mannerism (the server didn't care). I worked in the food industry at an early age, I know how difficult it is during these times to make money.
Quite frankly, if the server were my employee and I found out about an absolutely rude experience towards a customer and their guest(s), I wouldn't hesitate in giving a kindness lesson and/or termination. There are lots of people looking for work.
I paid the bill for the drinks, took the change and receipt, so I could get the server's name.
My friend and I left and went to another food and beverage place on the Hastings strip in the Burnaby Heights neighborhood.
Lousy service, rude behavior - no thanks! Better service, better monetary tip and a return visit, unfortunately I won't be able to stomach the thought of a return visit (my friends know of customer disloyalty...
Read moreExcellent beer. Not bad clam chowder. The turning point for me was. I've specifically asked for Tabasco sauce and I received Frank sauce no big deal. But I walked over to the bar and ask for Tobacco sauce and she straight up lied to me by saying we don't have tobacco sauce. So I pointed at the big Tabasco bottle right next to her. She replied oh that is for the bar only and was reluctant on even giving me it. I replied can you at least give me a little spash. She replied sure I will send it out to you later after I am done. OMG Sorry for asking. Well I did got the tiniest amount possible. Thanks. Lol. Felt bad about asking for more. The chicken felt like Pre-cooked reheated. Absolutely not a fan of the Suvaloki dish. Service was good, but not warm and welcoming. I heard good things and reviews about this place. Very disappointed. I had couple hours to kill before heading back into traffic. I was planning on staying for a couple of hours spending more on things to eat. And planning on revisiting again. Ended up staying less amount of time. Unfortunately my last visit here. If cheaping out on little things and lying to my face. Makes me wonder...
