SGH is a popular restaurant that is always busy. However, I have noticed some changes in the past few months that have led me to update my rating.
First, the portions have become smaller. This is a common trend in restaurants, but it is disappointing to see it happen at SGH. The food is still good, but I am not getting as much for my money as I used to.
Second, the restaurant has switched to using QR codes for menus. This is a progressive idea, but it has not been implemented well. The website menu is not up-to-date, so the prices on the QR code are incorrect, around 40% more is charged than the online menu prices. I brought this to the attention of the staff, and they updated the website later, However, this is still an inconvenience for customers.
Third, the restaurant staff hovers around the table with the credit card machine while you are trying to pay the bill. This is very unprofessional and makes me feel pressured to pay quickly. I would prefer to be given the bill and have some time to review it before I pay.
Overall, the food at SGH is still good, but the service and value have declined. I would recommend this restaurant to people who are looking for a quick and casual meal, but I would not recommend it for special occasions.
Recommendations
Update the website menu to reflect the current prices. Give customers time to review the bill before they are asked to pay. Provide customers with the physical bill instead of hovering around with the credit...
Read moreHi there,
As a long-standing customer of sushi garden highgate, the food is usually alright and the service is decent. We usually have no complaints or bad things to say about this location and its food. However, today was a different circumstance. I had ordered the food online through their website, and had indicated 'no fish roe, no mayo and no fish flakes for all veggie rolls' due to dietary restrictions. Their website had also recommended to call to make sure any dietary restrictions were understood and catered to, so I had done so, and specified only to the veggie rolls. My mother had gone to pick up the sushi only to discover that the entire party tray had NO mayo and NO fish roe, there were rolls in the order that were not indicated to exclude the mayo or fish roe. Okay, no big deal, my mom just mentioned it to them, as this was a mistake on their part, and hoped that they would simply apologize and correct the sushi rolls. No, this was not the case, they said "we were not sure which ones to not include mayo and fish roe, so we didn't include it on any rolls", even though I had personally called to specify which rolls should not have these toppings. The server begrudgingly accepted the sushi rolls, explained it to the sushi chef, who then took the rolls, threw them in the garbage and proceeded to stomp on them. When the orders were done, the server coldly placed them down without a look or even an apology...
Will rethink the next time we...
Read moreThis is the worst service I've ever got. I called to place a take-out order, and the person who answered the phone wasn't really interested in taking my order. He gave me a hard time, not wanting to tell me anything about the menu. I ordered my food, and went to pick it up. When I got to the restaurant, the same guy who took my order over the phone, seemed to be very annoyed with my presence. I told him I had placed a take-out order, and he gave me the check where I saw he had given me a much larger plate than what I had ordered. I told him that I had repeteadly said I wanted the party plate that was $30 dollars, but he just wrote whatever he wanted. I was nice to him on the telephone, and also in person, but he seems to hate his job and costumers. I asked him if he was the manager or the owner, and why was he given me such attitude; he would not respond. I asked another girl for the manager's name, but she didn't want to give it to me. At the end the same guy, Injo, wrote his name and the manager's name. I don't think I can even bother contacting a manager when the attitude of employees is horrible, and they don't seem to care about the business. Perhaps they have way too many clients, and having a new one doesn't interest them. Who knows! Perhaps this is the way they treat clients around this neighborhood. I don't know, but no one calling for food, and wanting to eat and pay, should be...
