We ordered several things Including the sushi sashimi combo Sashimi was perfect . One of the few establishments that serve tuna properly at the correct temperature ( partially frozen ) The hamachi was mouth watering and sliced perfectly. Fresh and the right thickness as it melted in your mouth . The negi toro nigiri was so so good . It has been so long since I’ve had a good properly served negitoro ( tuna that is minced with green scallions ) . Most places dice up the tuna but the chef here took the time to mince it properly allowing the tuna to truly absorb the acid and the flavour from the onions . The tempura was nicely battered and crispy but some of the yams were cooked slightly al dente ( not my favorite) but my son loved it. Every bite of the tempura was followed with a sound of pleasure and satisfaction “mmmmmmmm !! Mom these are soooooooo good! It’s way better than the other tempura’s I’ve tried “. The accompanying tempura sauce was not nearly as sweet as the other places and more savoury. So so good. My son has recently switched from all sashimi and raw fish sushi’s to enjoying California rolls ( 😅 thankfully as it’s filling and cheaper on the wallet) We also ordered the larger medium sized California roll and a warrior roll. The California roll seemed a bit dry and needed either more mayo or more avocado. It is possible the rice was too dry? I only took one bite as I am not a fan of this roll. The warrior roll did not have nearly as much as salmon as pictured on the menu and also lacked the crunchy bits it promised . I would not order this item again. We also ordered the arashi special temaki cone -Tuna, salmon, avocado, fish egg, imitation crab meat, and spicy mayo. I think this was my favorite item and when my son asked for a bite - for the first time I can ever remember - I did not want to share it with him and reluctantly handed it over as I sadly watched him take a bite in the one corner of the cone I was hoping he would avoid 😭 My main issues here were that the menu price and the reciept price were different by a few dollars - Three items were all so mispriced ( beverages and some sushi) I have no issues paying what is asked but being charged for what is not properly priced is an issue I normally strongly vocalize - the night was super late and we were eager to get home . I knew it would take too much time to address the problem so I chose not too. The server seemed uninformed and relatively new ( he couldn’t answer several questions we had about the menu) but he was kind and incredibly gracious. He had good manner and his attitude and general service was great. The actual restaurant seems a little bit of a dive and the decor could use a facelift but the chef has great skill and as a sushi connoisseur- I found the sushi to be mostly great. It’s interesting to note that the more common rolls were not that great but the harder complicated sushi was handled with great care, knowledge and skill. The food took a long time to come and I understand the frustrations from some of the other comments regarding this restaurant but I watched the chef and the staff and it was not a matter of laziness or disregard. The kitchen was a little busy from skip the dish orders , but the chef does things with precision and some of those things take time. The tempura wasn’t an instant batter and it really did take more time to prep than elsewhere . The payoff was a really delicious tempura that my son hadn’t experienced before . From my experiences with sushi - what I experienced here was very authentic and as close as to what one would find in Japan or a sushi restaurant with a a menu that is actually run , designed , created and executed by a Japanese chef. The Korean and Chinese sushi places tend to have more sugar and salt in their food and condiments I will happily return here again to further explore the other parts of the menu and hope I’ve encouraged other sushi lovers to give this place a shot .

I recently visited Arashi and had a fantastic time! Their service was excellent - the server was friendly and attentive throughout my meal. The server made sure I was okay with the addition of raw egg in the suta-pork rice dish upon ordering. But the real standout was the yakitori - the skewers were cooked to perfection and the flavors were absolutely delicious. The wagyu beef skewers and the wagyu aburi were incredibly tender and flavorful - they were rich and practically melted in my mouth! The amount of flavor was just right - not too much, not too little - so I could really taste the umami flavor of the meat. We also tried the suta-don (Kurobuta pork belly on rice) and the Katsu-Don (Japanese Pork Cutlet and Egg Rice Bowl), both of which were delicious. The Kurobuta pork belly, which are carefully raised and shipped directly from a farm near Edmonton, had a unique sweetness in the fresh quality of meat. Arashi offers excellent value for money compared to other restaurants with similar offerings. We've had sushi in our previous visit, and they were fresh and well-crafted. Overall, everything we tried was very delicious and they offer high-quality food with a good portion at a reasonable price. The atmosphere of the restaurant was inviting, with Japanese maneki-neko (beckoning cat) and cute kids hair accessories on display at the storefront which is also available for sale. The crew behind the open counter is clearly skilled and passionate about their work. They genuinely and warmly greeted us goodbye as we left. It's always reassuring to know that the people preparing your food take pride in their work and care about their customers. I am excited to go back and try more! I would highly recommend Arashi to anyone looking for a great yakitori experience!

Arashi Japanese Restaurant is a traditional Japanese restaurant serving sushi, ramen, rice bowls and more. The location is convenient, with lots of parking to go around. The inside of the restaurant isn't too big. Allowing for a warm and welcoming feel. The interior is decorated with many different Japanese arts and paintings. The food was as expected. There was nothing special about food and there was nothing wrong with the food. The sushi was the highlight if the meal. It was full of flavor and made you want to keep eating more. The rice had a great texture. Being able to stick together, while remaining soft and fluffy. There was a good portion of fish within the roll. The spicy mayo topping was perfect, as it did not overpower the roll itself. The taste for the wagyu beef rice bowl was flavorful. With a good amount of chili powder allowing for the meat to have a nice kick. The meat was a little disappointing. There was a good amount, but was a little overcooked and dry. The runny egg was perfect as it coated the rice and meat. The ramen left a lot to be desired. The portion was plenty. However, the broth becomes boring after several bites. It starts out flavorful and then slowly becomes dull. The noodles were good, not overcooked or too hard. Similar to the rice bowl the pork was dry, but there was plenty of it. The service was average. The staff were very friendly, but they don't check up on you too often. The price of the food was what you would expect at your average Japanese restaurant. It was not cheaper nor more expensive. Arashi Japanese Restaurant is a decent place to try. The sushi is highly recommended, as it has the most flavor and the best texture. Do give the rice bowls a chance as they can be quite tasty.

Base on our sister-in-law recommendation, she knows we are very picky regarding authentic and traditional Japanese cuisine. We went to try out Arashi Sushi few weeks ago. Our family of 4 enjoyed the dinner menu very much.our family travelled to Japan often and my sons lived In Japan for awhile, therefore, when it comes to authentic and traditional Japanese cuisine, price, value of food, presentation, passion of the preparation, and freshness of the ingredients, friendliness of the services mean a lot to us…….we have been searching for a good Japanese restaurant to suit our little taste of Japan in Calgary for a long time and Arashi didn’t disappoint us at all. My wife and I actually went back for Saturday lunch and were impressed for the value and the quality of the food. Need not to say, our family went back to celebrate Easter dinner there as well. As a family, we went to from street corner ramen stall to Michelin Stars Japanese restaurant in Ginza area in Tokyo. I have to say, are there other Japanese restaurant in Calgary area as good or better than Arashi? Probably, but is that any could match the quality of the food, value for your money, freshness and the authentic traditional Japanese restaurant feel? Probably not that many for sure…….we love this little restaurant and we will definitely recommend this little gem in the Calgary NW……the only suggestion I have for them is…….get a authentic bamboo cup for the used kushiage skewers and a box of tabletop gingers……..or maybe a plastic wrapped wet hand towel before meal..........that will be perfect! Just saying! ...
