We actually like this restaurant earlier for their unique flavors and delightful dishes. However, our recent experiences have been quite baffling. We've always appreciated the balanced use of spices that used to be their hallmark. Lately, though, we've encountered a noticeable swing between two extremes - dishes that are overpoweringly fiery or curiously lacking in spice altogether. This has been disheartening, especially considering our initial attraction to Raj palace was because we and our children loved their fried rice and kothu parotta.
During our last order, we experienced severe stomach discomfort due to the extreme spiciness. While the restaurant insisted it was a normal spice level, as South Indians accustomed to spices at home, we found it nearly inedible. The spice powders appeared raw, as if added as an afterthought. We believe it's crucial for the restaurant to acknowledge such feedback to retain its customer base and find a middle ground in terms of spice levels.
Moreover, it's not just our family that's been affected by this inconsistency. Many of our South Indian friends have also expressed their dissatisfaction with this restaurant for the same reasons. Even when we've conveyed that a dish was extremely spicy, they've reacted as if it was just normally spicy, suggesting that Raj palace may not be as attentive to customer feedback as we'd hoped.
To make matters worse, when we requested a mid-level spice, our recent order consisted of an oddly orange-colored fried rice and butter chicken that seemed to lack any real flavor except for a heavy dose of ajinomoto. It's disheartening to have paid for meals we couldn't eat, and this has been the case for the last three orders. Regrettably, we've reached a point where we can no longer consider ordering from...
Read moreWent for a take out for Father’s Day since my kids are too young. I ordered the food and asked the lady on the phone to pack the Dosa fillings separately (this way I can put the dosa’s in the oven to crisp them up) When I arrived to collect at 745pm, I was told that everything was there (I assumed that all fillings were separate). When I got home and opened the packages all the dosa’s were soggy. The mix grill sheek kebab was small round pattie’s (they should be long in shape). I called to let them know about the dosas and the lady who took the order said the restaurant was busy and the kitchen made a mistake. I did say you should have let me know and I wouldn’t have ordered. She asked me to come back for a replacement of two of the four different dosa’s since they cannot be packed separately.
Upon arriving the replacement were ready but lady said that I did not need to shout on the phone. I said that I did give you instructions and you did the opposite and I had to drive back. Further wasting my money on gas. She also didn’t want to understand that putting dosas in a hot oven can make them crispy again and can be reassembled at home. In the end my kids didn’t get to eat with me :( by the time I got home it was 815pm. I use to come to this restaurant frequently when it was opened by its owners (husband and wife) but they decided to concentrate on there southern locations. It’s a real shame as the food quality fell from 5 to 3.5-4 but the worst thing is that the service standards are...
Read moreWe went to Raj palace ( Royal Oak ) yesterday after nearly 8 months with friends. Most of us fell sick today and so I am writing this review to warn others. The food quality is abysmal and has gone down so much that we decided never to come here again. We ordered for chaats and ajwaini fish tikkas as appetizers . For the main course the four of us had dosas and idlis. The papdi chaat was ok ( papdi was too thick like sakarpada ones ) the sweet chutney had the consistency of water. Our Ajwaini fish tikkas were just fried fish - in oil gone bad. Tikkas are made in the tandoor and never fried and there was no sight of the ajwain at all. The quantity was half that of normal and we were served a small salad along with it ( we did not ask for a salad we paid for fish appetizer not veges ). The dosas had a bad smell / taste from the oil it was made in and we were not sure about it then so ate. Overall it was such a bad experience and that too when we brought friends along. The management has changed in the last few months but we think an overhaul of the kitchen and chef is in order if people are not to fall sick from the food and also regarding the policies followed by management regarding portion sizes etc. Had to give it one star to leave this review else it would definitely be a negative ! Eat here at...
