Chun Jang is a Korean noodle house. They specialize in serving Chineae-Korean Dishes. Including black bean noodles, maps tofu, and more. The restaurant is located in Royal Oak. The parking can be a little difficult but there are many lots located a little further away. The inside is very bright and vibrant. The service is quick, and the food comes out hot and fast. The half black bean noodles and half seafood noodle soup is delicious. They compliment each other well. Allowing individuals to eat different flavors without getting bored. The black bean noodles are not too salty and come with vegetables and small chunks of meat. The seafood noodle soup is spicy, but with a good amount of seafood (shrimp, squid, and mussel). The noodles are a great texture, not being too soft or too hard. The deep-fried pork is incredible. The texture is crunchy on the outside and soft and tender on the inside. It comes with a side of sweet and sour sauce. This pork is a great dish for all. All dishes are served with radish, onion, and black bean sauce. The price is decent. It is not too expensive for the portion. Expect to be full after a meal here. Chun Jang is a great korean noodle house. It's a great addition to Korean cuisine in Calgary. Definitely, it gives this place a try as it allows for different types of Korean dishes to be consumed.

This was my 2nd time trying Chun Jang. The 1st time, I was so disappointed by their black bean noodle, I made a promise not to come back, however, a good friend recently went and said it tasted different and the. food quality has changed. So, my husband and I gave it a try today. I must say the black bean noodle was actually not bad. The sweet and sour pork was really good! It was chewy and savoury. We were very pleasantly surprised. The jjampong though was a disappointment. Barely any seafood and the soup lacked flavor. It tasted heaby with ground peppers. The quanity was on the smaller side because my husband and I were not full after the meal. Also, they cheap out on the side dishes by giving like 4 pieces of onion at a time. San Dong Ban Jeom is my favourite black bean noodle place in Calgary still and when we order the classic combo, we have left overs because we get sooo full. Chun Jang is just closer to home, but I would still drive further to go to San Dong Ban Jeom. I hope Chun Jang can work on their food a bit more and improve and be a bit more lenient with portions.

EDITTED: The first few times I came, I didnt want to come back but since this is the only Jjajangmyeon place in the north, we came back on the days we were craving it. We noticed every time we came back that the food is getting slowly better. Today was probably our 7th time and it was way better. There's still room for improvement, but overall the flavour is there. The breaded pork is absolutely delicious. The jjampong to our surprise had such a strong meat broth taste which was so tasty! Jjajangmyeon tasted better but I think can be changed more. I was surprised to see a boiled egg on it since usually if an egg is offered, its a fried egg, but I think they used boiled egg because they can give half to save ingredients. They were busy today which is why the service lacked a little bit, but again, when I go to a Korean restaurant, usually I am not expecting high end service, so that is okay. All in all, our whole family enjoyed the experience today.

Drove across the entire city to get here

Arrived at 7:50pm

My youngest son really wanted to try this restaurant as the black bean noodle dish ( ja jang myeon 짜장면) is his favorite and it was his birthday . He was super excited to try this place - we drove past his favorite place in the sw - and I was happy and encouraged his curiosity and open mind to try new things .

Driving from the Deep South of calgary - Took almost an hour to get here .

The dish he wanted is typically made quite fast and in Korea is considered fast food . Because he was starving I knew we would be in and out quickly but if it was too late I assumed they would at least be open for take out

Nope

Wouldn’t accommodate for anything. The staff was rigid , unfriendly and ignorant . Not the usual warm greeting I would expect from a Korean establishment .

If the young waiter had possibly smiled even just a little bit when he spoke to me I would not have been so angry ,not disappointed- but he implied it was my fault for coming so late .

My kids are upset in the car because they are starving and we are so far from the inner city that trying to find another restaurant with this item on the menu is it unrealistic .

PLEASE UPDATE THE HOURS ON THE WEBSITE AND BE A LITTLE CONSIDERATE FOR CUSTOMERS WHO DONT KNOW THAT YOU ACTUALLY CLOSE AT 7:30PM!!!!!

If you are not allowing entrance into your establishment after 7:30pm, AND you are not willing to do any take out orders after that time - THEN you need to change your hours of operation.

Absolutely angering and Unbelievable.

If you update your hours or change your policy I will give you the courtesy of taking down...

Updated review - the first couple of weeks for this restaurant was rough - they were definitely NOT organized/ready. HOWEVER, we gave it another try and had another take-out. This time, they were timely and foods tasted better. Their Jjambbong had ample seafoods, but it's not really spicy... I'm glad that I can give this update and hope they keep it up!

Original Review - Called to order take-out at 3:50pm - it’s gotta be before the dinner rush. Specifically asked how long it would take - I had heard some other people had issues with waiting already. The server said it should be ready in 40 mins (after consulting with someone in kitchen), which is pretty long for this kind of foods to begin with, but since it’s new, I figured they’d need more time. So, we got there at 4:30pm. They said they were not ready. We went back at 4:45pm and it was still not even close to being ready. We had to wait till 5:05pm to get the foods. Then, we drove home and opened up our packages to find that they missed one of the orders... Called back and they delivered the foods to our house - which was nice, but the delivery came at 6:00pm, at which time, we were already done with the foods that we actually received. Taste-wise, it’s not too bad - most of them were a bit too sweet to our tastes but the fried dumpling that we got for free as the restaurant’s apology was good. lol. Definitely not organized yet.. Hopefully, it’ll get better soon. I won’t be going back until they are...
