Went for my birthday last minute, was busy but didn't take long for them to seat us. Was 25% off pasta, so I figured I would get that. I got the Spicy Green Chili Penne with chicken - it was HEAVY of the spicy!!! Now, most places that are a pub type establishment don't have really spicy food (IMO), and I enjoy spice, so I opted for adding jalapeños. Again, I like spice.....this had SPICE, I was quite surprised, and not in a good way. My husband thought it was the jalapeños but I ate a couple and it didn't register spicy to me. It was to spicy to eat there, only could eat maybe 1/3 before I had to quit. Again, I love spice, I love jalapeños but that amount of spice didn't....belong? I don't know how else to say it. I like to get my money's worth, so getting lots of jalapeños for my $2, sweet! But....I think the jalapeños were competing with the amount of penne in the dish lol (in the pic). Anyhow, overall, it wasn't "bad", it was just not right. Service was borderline, but again, it was a full house. Had a cheesecake for dessert, it tasted...off. The strawberry sauce threw me off, it almost tasted salty or something. So it wasn't bad but just, off. I've been here for pizza and it was good. Would come again at some point but would only get spicy if it were my wings of pizza.

Mad Rose Pub in Royal Oak offers the quintessential neighborhood pub experience. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, making it a great spot to unwind. We found the food quality to be very good, with our meals tasting delicious. The beef dip and potato skins were very tasty. I also enjoyed a well-made Mexican Bulldog cocktail. While the food and ambiance were excellent, the service on our visit was unfortunately lacking. Our server seemed distracted and was forgetful, requiring us to get up and go to the bar or ask another server to retrieve items like ketchup, hot sauce, and water that we had requested. To make matters worse, we were incorrectly charged for a drink we didn't order. The manager, who had to get involved to issue a refund, appeared annoyed by the situation. No apology offered for the error. Despite the service issues, the delicious food and overall welcoming atmosphere would have us returning. There are other menu items, like the fish and chips, that I'm eager to try. We hope that on our next visit, the service will be as great as the food.

Came here for Sunday brunch with a large party. We arrived at 10am which was when the pub opened. We did not get our brew coffee until 10:25am. When we got the coffee it was cold. Also the cups were stained with coffee on the outside of the cup (see image). Our brunch order came out at around 10:50am. I ordered the breakfast hash and it was alright. The eggs were cooked perfect (over easy) but I felt the dish could have had more sausage in it. There was barely a piece of sausage. Also the dish was lacking bacon in it. My wife ordered the breakfast burrito and thought it was ok. Felt $5 add on for fresh fruit over hash browns was a bit ridiculous. They really need to work on their service. They had an automatic gratuity due to size of order. I feel they didn't care to serve our table promptly as a result.

Mad Rose is my neighbourhood go to for delicious eats and drinks and I've been going there almost weekly for the last 6 months or so. I spend a LOT of time and money in this place. You can't beat their BLT. Gluten free options as well! I was there last Monday with my husband and the parents for a birthday dinner which was lucky for me, I was craving the Rueben like nobody's business. I've had it many times before, with a Ceasar salad, gluten free. So when my waitress got snobby with me and told me the salad wasn't gluten free I was a little confused. I said "I've had it before, just no croutons" and she snarled at me and turned and left with our order. After a very long wait, the rest of the party's food was brought out and set in front of them. Mine did not arrive at the same time. After 10 minutes I was informed by crabby waitress that it had been made wrong and had to be re-done. So I waited longer and so did my table, because they thought it rude to eat in front of me. When she finally brought it, it was very terrible. The bun was soggy and falling apart (they have never been like that) I couldn't even pick it up to eat it like a sandwich. I tried using a knife and fork but that was pointless, it didn't work either. I enjoyed my salad but gave up on the sandwich altogether. That was an expensive salad. I hope when you, the reader, go there that your food is great like it usually is and I hope you get one of the good servers. Mine was having a bad day and maybe should have stayed...

BOYCOTT this place!! I have eaten here a few times and the food was average at best but the service was normally good. I went there with my son last night and was refused entry as they would not accept my documents from Nova Scotia and Ontario(two separate COVID shots), although it was fine every other time. I asked to speak to the supervisor and she was rude and although I informed her that I have eaten here prior with the same documents, she just ignored me. We sat there for over 30 minutes waiting to see if her manager could make a decision but no one even came back to our table. We left! I spoke to Matt(the owner) and informed him of the situation and further stated that I had served my country for over 25 years and have NEVER been denied entry into an establishment. My feeling was that Matt was anti military and was on a power trip and his final text to me was I do not care who you tell. WELL MATT, I am happy I have your permission to share my experience. For ALL of you out there reading this and has accepted poor service or put down because of race, religion or being military, STAND UP and accept it no more and it starts by BOYCOTTING this pub!! I am tired of privileged arrogant people thinking they can do whatever they choose to do. I also can choose NEVER to spend another dime there and go to places where customers are appreciated and welcome. PLEASE DO...

Combination of good natural lighting and modern interior with a mix of tables and booths, seating large or small groups. A nice, enclosed patio now open seasonally. They offer breakfast, lunch and dinner, with brunch options on Saturday and Sunday. This could be a "go after work" or on a "date night" destination, and I think due to its versatility you'll find a variety of people here from young to middle age, and all kinds of careers.

There is also variety of food to choose from without an overwhelming menu. I've always found the food to be very good quality at a good price --not the cheapest or the most overpriced you'll find, but fresh and delicious food for the cost, with well priced specials every day of the week. I particularly enjoy their butter chicken, Hawaiian pizza, buffalo chicken wrap, and omelettes (breakfast). They make a dark roast coffee that is smooth and tasty. Beer and wine selection has improved but is my only "complaint"; I'd love to see a little more variety, but they do carry some local beers.

Service has always been solid here, and many of the staff seem to stay at this location. This has the feel of a local pub, with a trendy edge-- it is wonderful to have such a reliable place to go in the far NW of Calgary.

Of note: line ups can happen on Fridays nights, and they also...
