This was our first visit to Bodega Mexican Restaurant and it did not disappoint. There is paid street parking and it is free after 6 PM. There is paid parking in the back and the cost is much more. I think it was $7 for 2 hours. The restaurant is small but there was a good amount of tables and chairs. When we got there it was not bust at all that was around 6:15 pm. But after 7 there was a rush and the restaurant was packed.
We started with the Dori-Nachos. These were crispy Doritos, generously topped with seasoned ground beef, fresh lettuce, juicy tomatoes, zesty onions, creamy nacho cheese, Mexi-sour cream, and just the right kick of jalapeños. We ordered a side of fresh guacamole and it was so good!
I got The Carne Asada Tacos as my main dish. Tender carne asada nestled in warm, corn tortillas, adorned with melted cheese, onions, tomatoes, and cilantro. And let's not forget the sides – the corn salsa and guacamole elevate the experience to new heights. When I requested spicy hot sauce, I was pleasantly surprised to receive a habanero sauce that not only packed a punch but also boasted a delightful flavour profile.
We also tried the Tacos De Birria With Consommé. These little pockets of joy are packed with shredded beef, perfectly complemented by melted queso, onions, cilantro, and a splash of lime. But here's the kicker – that side of beef broth is pure liquid gold. Dip your taco in, and you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.
Last but certainly not least, the Regular Burrito. A hearty twelve-inch flour tortilla stuffed to the brim with refried beans, fluffy rice, succulent beef, onions, tomatoes, and cilantro. This hit the spot if you are craving Mexican.
In conclusion, Bodega Mexican Restaurant is legit! We love Mexican food and we were all satisfied. So much intense flavours and lots of freshness in all the dishes. We will...
Read moreBodega Mexican Restaurant is a great mexican option at Kensington. It's a bit small, so a quick call ahead to reserve your place is a smart move.
The food screams authenticity, right from the appetizers to the mains. The Grande Bolego Nachos were a real hit, perfectly shareable among our party of four. Although, a little extra dip wouldn't go amiss next time.
The chicken Carne Asada Tacos were truly tasty, offering a good portion size filled with flavor.
The Tamales Banados bring an interesting twist with their 'masa', a kind of corn dough that's a traditional component in Mexican cuisine. Although the 'masa' flavor wasn't my cup of tea, some might find it quite appealing.
As for the Flautas, those deep-fried tortillas were pretty spot on and packed with taste.
Now, one thing to note is that their dessert options are a bit limited. So if you have a sweet tooth, you might want to explore nearby for your after-meal treat.
In a nutshell, Bodega Mexicana, with its authentic Mexican fare, convenient location, and good flavors, is a worthy dining option. It's got a bit of everything for everyone, though not all dishes may be to personal taste. It's definitely worth a visit when you're in the mood for some authentic...

Anyone considering ordering from here via SkipTheDishes or Doordash (which I drive for), read on (and, don't do it!)
You WILL NOT get your food on time. This restaurant is CHRONICALLY late with all food orders. I've picked up here maybe two dozen times (and never again!) on both platforms. My SHORTEST wait was 2 minutes. My longest was 23 minutes. Average is about 12. Meaning..... you ain't getting your food on time. Plus, they're in Kensington - so ESPECIALLY be warned about ordering during afternoon/evening dinner rush, as traffic will delay your food another ten minutes.
Staff seem extremely unprofessional - I see them looking puzzled while assembling food and asking each other how to make this particular item (it all happens at a counter in view of everyone). I've never tried the food here, and after witnessing this, never will try it.
Menu prices are VERY on the high-side for Mexican food - which, let's face it, is all about cheap ingredients. Mexican in Calgary is way overpriced - but that's...
