Poppy Plaza — Attraction in Calgary

I've seen this place under (tax paid) construction at least 2x in the last year or so. Lots of (tax paid) scaffolding and then the reveal is mediocre at best considering it's still a fairly sketchy area where they have the under-bridge pathway more than hidden from the City building on the property with all those (tax paid) cameras.

All for the sake of spending (tax paid) money on art which is only lit up at night - again - sketchy area, whose going there at night to read war stories!? It seems ironic to me to shove the heroes in the gutter with all the people who really reap the benefits of the freedom they fought for.

You can't even see the display from the street level around Memorial and 10th, either by car or walking any of the many paths or from the other side of the river. It's just a shame more people don't know it exists for the heroes, whether they're walking or driving by.

The elimination of the human element from the consideration of form, modernism that doesn't fit, removing park style benches with a view of the river to reflect the area of Kensington, the history of memorial drive, the time period, for ugly uncomfortable slabs that no one uses, scrap rusting iron with quotes gives little value or reverence. As modernism doesn't fit in Paris, you can keep an area like Steven Ave historic and Kensington should stay kept with a 20s 30s classic look, but like poopey plaza and the "pixel" it's attempt at architecture just looks ugly and of need of renovation, like most federal ugly 1970s 1980s buildings that try an outdoor area it's useless by design as this park is... Humans want to sit comfortably or uncomfortably to get a view of the river, this scrap steel doesn't work, no one uses it...

It is a busy corner, loud from local traffic from the bridge. Great for grabbing coffee at any kensington coffee shop and go there for few photos and enjoying the view. There is the iconic Memorial lettering, just be careful When taking a pic cuz the cars won't...
