Stayed at The Westley Calgary Downtown, September 5th - 9th (2024). Room was “Savour” (corner king); used Hilton Honors app to choose my own room - opted for 410.||Room was comfortable: very new and clean. Bed was firm but not rock hard (if you want a mushy mattress, I guess you are out of luck?). Plenty of pillows. Crisp, fresh, bright sheets.||More brightness came from an abundance of natural light afforded by gigantic windows! In addition to the corner room windows (see pictures), there was a gigantic window in the bathroom. Plus the added “fun” feature of one-way daylight privacy film (…and yes, I checked … but I only tried to look in my OWN room, thank you!). So: exhibitionists, rejoice - you are safe from peeping daytime eyes!||Speaking of “safe” - there was a safe! I always appreciate a safe (I’m weird).||The entire bathroom (not just the huge window) was a highlight - it had a sleek and modern, but still retro, aesthetic. Very appealing. It functioned, well, too. My cavernous, tiled shower (with a bench!) had an adjustable, hand-held wand AND a ceiling-mounted rainfall shower head. ||I slept soundly and did not hear much outside noise. [Well … after I realized the sound I had taken for a killer sharpening their instruments of torture was merely the curtains being opened / closed in the room directly above mine, haha.]. In all seriousness: I slept a bit TOO soundly! I had to leave the curtains open so as not to over-sleep!||Ahh yes - the curtains: if I had to nitpick (and you want me to, right?), that would be a place for improvement. They are ceiling-mounted and you manually open / close them. I think there will be a lot of broken … curtain-handle-puller-thingies (that’s scientific nomenclature, obviously). ||More nitpicking: the “digital key” wasn’t without flaws. One elevator was a bit buggy. Luckily the staff was aware of the issue and nipped it in the bud by handing out physical keys at check-in.||Echoing other reviewers: there were a few stand-out staff members. Alesia on the reception team was exceptional - on the phone, over email, and in person. Polite, helpful, friendly, accommodating, etc. There were two other evening reception team staff (a gentleman with glasses, and a young woman with short / medium dark hair) - mea culpa that I did not get their names - who were also excellent. ||Unfortunately, whomever designed the uniforms for the reception team…. Well, maybe I’m just old and out of touch. ||Guess I’d rather comment on that than the super-exciting toilet paper. ;)||This review has been long enough … and I haven’t even said that I didn’t get a chance to use the gym because I walked so much - Calgary is a very walkable city.||I also haven’t mentioned that the location was decent, and that I was able to walk everywhere except the airport … even the zoo (but I admit that’s likely a “me” thing and not an “everyone” thing).||Ack - also forgot to talk about the one night I got room service from the in-house restaurant (pretty good!). Kind of a bummer there’s not a good 24-7 convenience store close-by … but they do offer snacks and such at reception, and water / ice stations on most (?) floors. [Seems you can get anything you want delivered, and the hotel is very close to Stephen Avenue.]||And as I’m about to fall asleep, I will abruptly end my my detailed review of...

Read moreTo start, the hotel amenities are excellent. It's a very modern upscale hotel.
My review is to do with the service of the front desk and the manager. Summary of my review is: we received poor treatment and were treated unfairly and we walked out of the hotel without staying there. We were in the hotel maybe 20 min. The supervisor was rude and the manager was argumentative. Ready on for full review.
We had booked a corner king room, months before our scheduled visit on Sep 14, this was also our wedding anniversary. It was supposed to be a special treat for us.
When we arrived at check-in, we were allowed to check in early, which we were grateful for. We received our keys and went up to our room to discover that our room was a two queen regular room. We went back down with our luggage to the front desk. I told the employee that we had booked a corner room. We were told they have overbooked and there are no corner rooms available. We were not told this at check in, which was inappropriate. I spoke with the 'supervisor' who was condescending and patronizing, she said there is nothing we can do. I then asked if there is a price difference, she then checked and said yes. Not sure why this information was not communicated to me earlier. They probably were hoping I would not notice that my room is different and would just stay there, charging me more money.
Unsatisfied with the way this was being handled I then asked to speak to the manager. The manager came out a few min later, he was very aggressive and unwilling to listen to my wife and I, he started throwing technicalities at us and telling us that since we booked with a third party there is no room guarantee. He started quoting room sq footage, fine print and other non sense. He was extremely argumentative. Bottom line is he was not interested in our story and customer satisfaction. He then said he could discount the room. He clearly didn't understand why were were upset. The reasons are, we were not told at check in that our room would be different, they were unwilling to admit their mistake, they tried throwing every excuse at us and the ' supervisor' was extremely rude.
At this level of hotel I expect different, this is a typical bait annd switch, they got us to come in and then charged us a higher price for a lower room. Not my problem that they overbooked. What happened to customer satisfaction?
I didn't need a discount, its not about the money, I need to be treated fairly, with compassion and the way a paying guest should. They treated us like they were doing us a favor, the manager had a superiority complex. Buddy, you're not the only hotel in town.
We then walked out with our luggage and stayed somewhere else. Terrible customer service, not interested in customer satisfaction, just their...
