Bull and Finch Southland — Restaurant in Calgary

We live near this pub and have been going there on and off for many years, through a renovation and a name change from and back to Bull and Finch. We went last Saturday to see a musician that one of bartenders had described as very good on a visit the previous week

The Pub itself was in good shape but there was dust and crud on the lamps overhanging the table. Service was extremely good - fast, efficient and friendly. The menu was the usual boring pub food, but we tried the deep fried mac and cheese appetizer and it was surprisingly good.

The draft beer selection had a mix of BigBrew Inc. beers and some beers from local breweries Big Rock and Wild Rose. OK but not great.

The music was too loud, the singer - guitarist was off key, unable to keep the rhythm and he and his guitar were so over-amped it was all just mud. The pub had cleared some tables to make a dance floor but in the hour we were there we saw nobody dance, probably because of the music which was also mostly tunes badly chosen for dancing.

We'll be back, especially in summer, they have a great patio, and we can and do walk there and back.

I’ve been a regular on and off at bull and finch for a while now, and up until recently, I’ve had no real complaints. It’s your standard neighborhood bar, but it’s comfortable, and I enjoy the atmosphere and MOST of the bartenders. However, my most recent visit completely soured my experience.

I had been enjoying a few drinks with friends and playing on the VLT machines and won a pretty good amount, when I went to the bartender (I think his name was Steve) to cash in he handed me 20$ short of the total amount ands claimed it was a “tip”. I’ve never had this happen at any other bar I have ever been to.

This was so unprofessional and honestly pretty embarrassing. I’ve worked in the service industry myself and i know this is not a standard practice. I went back the next day to mention it to someone else but the manager wasn’t there, from the reaction of the other bartender it seems like this is a pretty regular thing. I am amazed at how he still has a job.

I don’t plan on returning anytime soon, and I’ll definitely be spending my money at bars where the staff knows how to treat their regulars...

The place is very nice and the service is great but the food is AWFUL. I don't even know how they serve that. Tastes awful and the presentation is embarassing as you can see. And pretty pricey for what you get. Like 14 bucks for 12 little mini meatballs?? You can tell they are the frozen ones. And they are the disgusting frozen ones not the good one. All my food gave me a stomach ache. And they serve sour cream with deep fried pickles?!??and also the Mac and cheese bites??? Who eats any of that with sour cream?? It should be some kind of aioli dip or ranch. All this says to me is that the chef is LAZY. I feel sorry for the owner, the chef is gonna run this place...
