After facilitating a booking of banana bread on the TooGoodToGo app at Byblos Bakery my friend wanted some so booked them to. My banana bread was okay but it's denser than the banana bread I'm use to. My friends turned out to be undercooked with blue-tinged dough. This is where the bad ends.
[Pending Update] I called back and they said to return for exchange without any need to rebook on the app. They said it was the first time it had happened and the situation would be analyzed as to how it came to be baked that way.
They were friendly and a little put off by my backwards questions on the origin of the bakery. Yesterday on Tuesday were chearier bakers. I believe bad service may vary with the day of the week.
I suggest to try them out. It's not a place I'll go to often but this week in May they came through on customer service. Definitely room for improvement.
This bakery is a small operation in the Northeast with some table seating in doors. The entrance is in what would be the back of a business at the corner of a traffic intersection that makes one do two right angle almost illegal turns within an intersection. (Probably better if on bike or using a donkey. Probably nothing on the weird driving you may have to do in Byblos or Damascus.)
At first when I saw the trucks driving around in 2006 it was a Greek thing. I found out almost two decades later Byblos is a middle-eastern bakery that had all the usually middle east sweet and savory items. I am no middle east food connoisseur. Seem there is the nut-infused or nut-paste bakery items and some flóur sugar cookies.
There main staples is pita bread and they have a type called Balady Bread. There Banana Bread is good when heated up like most baking items.
I believe there delivery service is for events and other...
Read moreWalked in, said hello, woman didn't even acknowledge our presence. There were a bunch of flies so we didn't even bother to look after that. Huge red flag so I thought I'd go back to my car and look up their health inspection records and I'm glad I did. They have health violations as recent as July 11th, and some of these violations are listed as critical. As someone familiar with health codes, a critical violation is one where a serious infraction that poses an immediate and significant threat to public health, often involving food safety or sanitation. These violations require prompt corrective action, and failure to address them can lead to immediate closure of the facility. They had critical violations in June, as well as July during a follow up inspection regarding their first violations. To say I was disappointed is an understatement! After my non existent customer service combined with reading their health code violations, I'll never...
Read moreGreat place to get pita but I would rather buy my byblos pita from the big box store where they have to have their BB dates clearly marked. Came in to get some baked goods straight from the source - many of the boxed sweets didn't have any dates on them and a few had dates from three weeks ago. When I asked the lady about it she said she must have missed taking the two outdated boxes off the shelf but I suspect she meant she had forgotton to peel the sticker off so no one could see because the rest of the boxes were not even marked with a date and looked super stale. I would also avoid the towers of baked sweets on display. Bought a couple to try and they are so stale that the inside was rock hard when I bit into it. I also got a meat and cheese pie, $4.00 for a chewy, old, flavourless, pastry. Nope, I'll stick to getting my byblos from the grocery store where there's better...
