Highly disorganized/unstructured, lack of online menus, the inability to do online orders, and doesn't have correct phone numbers posted for the chicken and bakery. It appears like they were not prepared to open, which is also evident from the changing sides that come with the Katsu being different than the first time I ordered (used to be yellow radish, rice, cabbage, dressing, miso soup.) The Katsu is incredibly small for the expensive price and the Katsu skin separates from the meat. Cashiers are sometimes busy with finishing up the Katsu(from what I see as they're taking the Katsu plates from the kitchen) while at the same time taking orders from the till or answering the phone.
Extremely long wait times for their menu when it entirely consists of fried food and does not have to be cooked or prepped on the spot. During my second time buying Katsu(to give it another try before reviewing), my order was 30 minutes late(total of about 55 minutes) but they simply offered a $5 coupon and a monotone apology. It was two Katsu orders and I was initially told the wait time would be 25 minutes. The cheese used for the cheese Katsu seemed very thick, weirdly chewy, and almost rubbery, which seems like they used cheap, low-quality ingredients(for the cheese at least) while charging the menu items at high prices.
I'm not sure if this location is actually aiming for customer satisfaction and customer retention from the way the chicken/Katsu...
Read moreI went in last week for a pick-up order.. There was dine-in but there was only one server/cashier working -- ringing the till, bagging food, and handling dine-in customers.
I worked as a server at a restaurant for 2 years and I haven't seen this kind of customer service method before... Maybe the employers or management are having trouble hiring more staff, or trying to save money by using one server (wouldn't this cause a situation where servers end up quitting???)
From my experience, I'd say it's the latter because servers aren't that difficult to hire because they're mainly minimum wage jobs (no disrespect to them, just a reality b/c I did it as well...)
But I felt bad for the server who had to work alone and try to do everything while the bakery side seemed to have 3~5 people working. It's bad customer service(waited for a while) but it also shows that the workers aren't treated well. The food was good but I'm hesitant to be back, especially knowing what it's like from working as a server...
The WOW franchise is everywhere in Calgary but now I'm looking at them differently. I prefer finding somewhere else to eat (there are many local, family-owned food businesses in Calgary), than support a place where they treat their workers...
Read moreStopped in here for dinner last night. We have eaten at WOW chicken in Country Hills and had a bad experience. So even though we live very close to the Royal Oak area we have never stopped in here to try it out. This was our first time at this location and we were blown away! The Chicken was so crispy and so moist. Was not overly salted like the other location. The seasoned fries was also delicious. Not sure what kind of seasoning they used on them but was very well done. For the record I ordered the boneless chicken thighs (Seasoned), the kids got chicken strips and the wife ordered the Don Katsu. We all enjoyed our meals and would for sure come back again. The chicken thighs seasoned was the best! I give 5/5 and a must try. The seating area in the restaurant is smaller but there was only 2 other families there. This is not a fast food joint so the wait time on the food is a little longer but then you know its fresh. I will gladly wait to have my food prepared fresh. The staff are also very friendly and kind. This is our go to spot for fried...
