Deng’s Dumpling — Restaurant in Calgary

My family and I were worried when our favorite dumpling and Chinese food restaurant for 35+ years, Silver Inn, closed late last year. Since then, I have been searching around and trying to find a new home for our dumpling fixation. After a few unsuccessful months of testing a variety of establishments, I came across a CBC article from July 2022 that talked about Deng’s Dumplings on Rundlehorn Drive.

My interest was instantly peaked and the first opportunity I had I made my way over to the restaurant. The friendly and courteous owners blew me away instantly with their kindness and generosity. Once I had my order in my car, I tried a couple of the dumplings. The food was just as good as the owners are friendly and kind. The only issue I had was that it was a 25-30 minute drive away from my house!

Fortunately, upon my second visit, I was informed they were opening a second location on Center Street. Major Score! With this new location now open, and directly on my drive home like Silver Inn was, my dumpling fixation is once again being fed. Hopefully for a great many more years. So please help spread the word about this great family business.

I was exploring the area and found this place based on the highest rating on Google review nearby. The quality of dumpling 🥟 did not disappoint!

I ordered 12 dumplings but I wanted to try all kinds of their dumplings, so the owner made me a combo to grant my wish. I paid the price of beef dumpling which was more expensive but it was fine as I valued the flexibility. It turned out beef and vege were my favourite. Chili oil you needed to pay extra.

There were only 4-5 chairs inside. When I arrived, there was a mother with two young sons. I wanted to dine in, the owner assured me the wait for seat would not be long. I took my time enjoying my dumplings and there were a middle aged couple who recently moved here from the far north of China and ordered six dumplings. They also enjoyed them. They asked the owner a lot of questions and the owners patiently and friendly answered them all. She was so even nice that she even offered them some more dumplings for free. I also wanted some free dumplings, too!

Price was on the high end for dumplings. However, they were exceptional, so I would come back next...

UPDATE: They are as nice as ever. After I commented how much I like their dip, they gave me another at no charge.

I finally had the opportunity to visit Deng's Dumplings' second location, and it's closer to me.

The wife was working at this location while he stayed back at the original.

I got the Hungry Man Water Crispy Pork Dumplings. From previous experience, I requested extra crispy, and she happily complied. The extra crispy request makes a big difference!

The filling was nice with a good balance of flavors without an overwhelming pork taste. The skin was much better with the extra crispy crunch to contrast the juicy meat centre.

The wife was so generous that she offered me a free drink and their famous Special Chili Oil. What a kind and generous offer. This is why so many of us love supporting Deng's Dumplings.
