Simply put it’s not great. Despite what all the other reviews say, this place is ok. With how many great places there are in Calgary to get donairs and shawarma, it’s hard to recommend or say this place is worth checking out. It’s not bad per say, but when i’m done eating I just find myself wishing I had gone somewhere else.
The review feed is also full of short reviews that just give way over the top praise. Maybe it’s earned but then again maybe it’s just being flooded with fake reviews. I can’t say. All I know is if they are fake then people like myself are only gonna be fooled once. I checked it out and in my opinion it’s definitely not the best in town or even close to what most reviews say. Maybe that’s just me but yea the reviews really didn’t live up to the experience. It feels dishonest if they are fake, like why not just make great food and let it speak for itself? But I digress.
The first time I got the beef donair the second time I got the chicken shawarma wrap, with all the fixings. Both were kinda….meh, I was filled but not satisfied more or less. Also the wraps were just wrapped terribly, kinda like a rolled up taco with the ends just falling out everywhere. It made it hard to eat. And it wasn’t grilled long enough to seal it all together. I know other shops have that second thin outer wrap to tuck everything inside and seal it up so it’s a nice tight wrap with some solid grill marks and extra flavor. But nothing of the sort here.
I think this place could be pretty good it’s nice and clean and it’s brand new so maybe they are tightening up the loose ends still. But at the moment it needs some work. I hope it improves cause the area is still very new and having a great Donair / shawarma place nearby always makes for a great place to grab a bite to eat. Especially on a late night after a few drinks, or coming home from...
Read moreOn my recent visit, I ordered a Super Beef Donair and a Snapple Iced Tea, totaling $17.25. Having not dined at this establishment in some time, I was eager to give it another chance. Unfortunately, the experience fell short of expectations.
The donair meat lacked the desired texture, appearing overly soft as it was kept in a warmer without being grilled to achieve a crispy exterior. The cheese was not melted, and despite requesting extra sweet sauce, its flavor was barely discernible. While the donair was placed in a grill press after being wrapped, it was not heated sufficiently to create a crisp crust, rendering the step ineffective.
Overall, the dish felt hastily assembled, lacking the care and attention to detail that elevates a dining experience. While not unpleasant, the quality did not justify the price, especially when compared to other establishments offering superior alternatives. Additionally, I found the practice of vacuuming or sweeping near dining areas during service to be off-putting, as it risks stirring up dust and contaminants.
Regrettably, I will not be returning, as the experience did not meet the standard I...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I ordered from DoorDash. It was not good. We both took a couple of bites and ended up throwing our donairs out. I ordered the falafel donair. The falafels were extremely bitter. I ordered sweet sauce on my donair as it didn’t give me the option for tzatziki on my falafel donair, even though my boyfriend was able to order it on his beef donair. I don’t know what sauce they put on my donair as it didn’t taste anything like sweet sauce. It kind of tasted like a poor attempt at hummus but extremely watered down. Like literally watered down. So much ruin liquid sauce everywhere. My boyfriend said his donair was not good at all and the beef was very dry and hard to chew. The vegetable samosa was smaller than an average samosa and I’m pretty sure it was a boxed frozen samosa. Whatever it was, it was not good. I have had better ones from the deli section at a grocery store. The fries were pretty alright though. Overall, my boyfriend and I have had way better, more authentic tasting donairs elsewhere, and won’t be returning. Donair portion sizes were pretty...
