I honestly wish I could give a zero for service. It was so bad. Food and atmosphere were great. Cute place. I hate to complain but the service was terrible. We waited 15 minutes or more to even get asked if we wanted a drink, and we had to get their attention. When the rest of the group arrived they also had to wait over 15 minutes before or server came to ask them if they wanted a drink, same when we wanted to order food. I should also mention when we arrived there were only 2 tables of 2, and for most of our meal we were the only table in the restaurant.

I ordered a 9oz glass of red wine, which was 34 dollars a glass and was given 5 oz. I drink wine regularly and knew it was not 9 oz. 9oz is always usually given in a carafe at a restaurant to pour yourself. And even if this place did not do that what they gave me was not 9oz. It was clear it was not the 9oz that was ordered as the glass was a quarter full (and a normal sized glass) I brought the glass up to the counter as no one came back for a very long time. The girl at the counter told me she used a shot glass to measure and was very dismissive about the situation. I wouldn’t normally complain but when you are spending 34 dollars for a glass of wine you should be receiving the full 9oz. They then proceeded to charge me for the 9oz glass even after I expressed to her that it was not 9oz and everyone at our table agreed.

The server never came back to ask if anything was needed. Never asked us once through the dinner if we needed another drink or needed anything at all and we were there for 2 hours from 8 to after 10. Our server proceeded to clean the bathroom by our table instead of serving us. All the workers would just walk by and no one even looked at us or checked on us. We waited for a very long time after our dinner as well before we had to get his attention to ask for the bills or a container for our takeout which we had to ask for more than once. All while we were the only ones left in the restaurant.

The server then proceeded to charge us an automatic 18% gratuity on our bill for a large party even though there was only 7 of us. Which maybe I am wrong but I thought it was for groups of 8 or more. Which we all felt they didn’t put any effort in as they knew they were going to charge us for the group gratuity. I don’t mind at all paying this if it was great place with great service. But with the service we received 18% was not a fair gratuity.

I hate to leave a bad review as the food was delicious and it was such a nice place. I unfortunately have though not had service this bad in a very long time. And would not recommend this place if you are looking for a nice night out. Not one person out of the 7 of us was pleased with the service or...

We visited Narikatsu on Saturday for lunch and ordered the takoyaki, katsu curry, cheese katsu combo, and katsu don. • Takoyaki was good—crispy on the outside, but we found the center a bit underdone. However, we really enjoyed the potato salad side. • Katsu curry was tasty, but we wished it came with more than just miso soup. It was just curry sauce, katsu, and rice—some vegetables would have made it more balanced. • Katsu don was also good, and it came with a variety of sides: pickled onion, cabbage salad, miso soup, and potato salad. The portion size was solid. • Cheese katsu was very good and had great value since it also included pickled onion, cabbage salad, miso soup, and potato salad. Definitely worth it for what you get.

Service was good, and the restaurant was clean. We also thought it was a nice touch that they provide free amenities like mouthwash and floss in the bathrooms—something you don’t see often!

Overall, a solid experience, and we’d consider coming back to try other things...

I've been a loyal customer of this restaurant for several months now, having dined here over ten times or more and spent hundreds of dollars. Each time, I've always requested extra rice, and it was never an issue or an extra charge. However, during my most recent visit, I was surprised to see I was charged for two extra servings of rice. If there’s a new policy in place, I completely understand, but it would’ve been helpful if someone had informed me beforehand. I didn’t have a problem with the bill itself—I simply wanted to ask if an exception could be made this time, given my history with the restaurant. Unfortunately, when I spoke to the manager, she seemed unwilling to consider it, which was disappointing. Not to mention, price is significantly higher than their other competitors. There are better katsu places in downtown that will provide exceptional customer service compared to...

Overall, the food was absolutely delicious and was so filling! The meals are set meals, and includes delicious sides, even the rice was done well (which is sometimes rare! It's something you could be mediocre with, but not this place!) My favourite side dish was the chawanmooshi (steamed egg), it was soooo yummy, and the egg was done so smoothly, I was floored! I don't think I've had such a yummy steamed egg at another restaurant in Calgary! The service was good, and attentive, but not overly special. At first I was worried when I first walked in because they asked me if I had a reservation (even though it looked like there were open, unreserved tables available) and looked questioningly at me. Overall, a very nice atmosphere to be in, and a great place to probably go on a date. Seems romantic with dim lighting and beautiful settings.

I had the Gyukatsu, and it was phenomenal! The presentation was stunning, and the personal grill added an interactive and engaging element to the meal. Cooking the beautifully pink beef to my preferred level of doneness made it a truly unique and enjoyable experience. The flavors were rich, with a perfect balance of crispiness and tenderness in every bite. A special thank-you to the server, who was incredibly kind and attentive easily the best I’ve ever encountered! He explained the Gyukatsu and other dishes with such detail and passion, making the entire dining experience even more memorable. I should’ve asked for his name to thank him properly he truly made a difference. This is one of the best places to enjoy authentic Gyukatsu in Calgary. Highly recommend it for the amazing food and top-notch service!
